Maintaining cleanliness and neatness in your intimate area ensures a refreshing feeling, satisfying both yourself and your partner. Below are some tips that both men and women can follow to achieve a cleaner and tidier intimate area.
Steps
For Men

Trimming. The 1970s are long gone, and not trimming pubic hair now signals that you're either quite old-fashioned or simply don't care. Either way, a thick, unkempt pubic area won’t impress your partner, so it's time to trim. Trim before you shower to ensure you clean up all the excess hair thoroughly.
- If you have clippers, adjust them to a suitable length – around 1 to 2 cm (1/2 to 1 inch) works for most people. Carefully trim all the hair around and beneath your intimate area for a neater look.
- No clippers? Use a sharp pair of scissors and trim the hair evenly to the length you prefer.
- Some people prefer to shave their pubic hair. If you and your partner are among them, go ahead and try this method!
- Soak your intimate area in warm water for a few minutes to soften the hair. This makes shaving easier.
- Trim the hair first with scissors before applying shaving cream and any sharp instrument to the area.
- Be cautious. Even when shaving your face, it's easy to nick your skin, even though it’s something you do every day!
- Keep in mind that a few days after shaving, you may feel some itchiness. If you have an important presentation coming up, you might want to reconsider shaving and only do so after it’s over. Additionally, you can use an unscented moisturizer to alleviate the itching.

Use soap. When you're showering or taking a bath, don't forget to clean your private area with soap.
- If you have had your foreskin removed, it's quite easy to take care of your penis. Simply rub soap onto the area and rinse it off.
- If you haven't had your foreskin removed, be sure to clean the skin underneath it. Skipping this step can lead to the buildup of a white substance in this area, known as smegma. While it doesn't cause harm, you probably wouldn't want to see it on your skin.
- Gently scrub from top to bottom, making sure to cover all areas in between.

Rinse thoroughly. Who likes soap residue on their skin, or the scent of soap lingering around? For many, this fragrance can be as unpleasant as that of perfume.
- Some people prefer the natural scent of their partner’s body (for example, the scent of cleanliness without being overly fragrant). If you're unsure, it's safer to go for a neutral scent rather than overly strong perfumes.

Protect your private area properly. Change your underwear every day.
- Store your clean, unused underwear in a dry, cool place. Whether you prefer boxer shorts or briefs, ensure that you dry them thoroughly after washing. If not, your underwear will likely start to smell even worse than you do.
For Women

Trim your pubic hair. If you just want to tidy up the area to make it look cleaner, now is a great time to do so.
- If you have a trimmer, adjust the depth to a suitable setting – around 1 to 2 cm (1/2 to 1 inch) is ideal for most people. Trim carefully for a cleaner look.
- Don’t have a trimmer? Use a sharp pair of scissors and trim the hair evenly to your desired length.
- If you prefer shaving, soak the area in warm water for a few minutes to soften the skin and hair. This makes the shaving process smoother and more comfortable.
- Some people enjoy shaping their pubic hair into various patterns or styles. You can do the same if you and your partner prefer it!
- Just remember, a few days after shaving, you may experience some itching. Applying moisturizer can help reduce any discomfort.

Clean your private area every day. Ensure to wash and cleanse your intimate area, and be cautious when applying soap around the pubic area.
- Avoid using soap on the vulva or inside the vagina – doing so may cause irritation or infection in the sensitive areas.
Rinse thoroughly and dry carefully. You must fully rinse off any soap left on your skin, not only to eliminate any lingering fragrance but also to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

If you are menstruating, change your sanitary pad or tampon (the tube-shaped pads), or use a Menstrual Cup regularly. Be sure to clean and wash your private area after removing any used menstrual products and before using new ones.

Wear clean underwear.
- Store your clean, unused underwear in a dry, cool place and take good care of them – ensure they are completely dry after washing. If not, your clothes will likely start to smell worse than you do.
Tips
- Use a moisturizing product, especially after shaving, to maintain your skin's softness and smoothness.
- Try using baby wipes, as they are specifically designed for sensitive skin and will help neutralize odors.
- When shaving, consider using conditioner as a substitute for shaving cream to avoid cutting your skin.
- Shower with someone else. This method not only saves water but also makes the grooming process more enjoyable and intimate.
- Wear underwear made from 100% cotton. This fabric minimizes the risk of skin irritation.
Warning
- When cleaning your private area, make sure to do so in a well-ventilated area, as sweat can lead to the growth of more bacteria.
- Shaving can cause itching and may lead to ingrown hairs, so carefully consider your decision before proceeding.
- Avoid wearing the same pair of underwear for several days in a row.
