Learning a new language is challenging, but it's certainly achievable. The process of mastering a language is divided into four main areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. To speed up your English learning, you can start with Step 1 outlined below.
Steps
Engaging Methods

Read, read, read. One of the easiest ways to learn English quickly is by reading as much as possible. Read whenever and wherever you can. This will help expand your vocabulary and enhance your understanding of grammar and slang.
- Read comics. If you don't want to read children's books, a simpler option is to read comics. You can find many English comic books in bookstores or online, or read free webcomics online.
- Reread books you’ve already read. You can also revisit books you've read before. Knowing the content gives you a head start, making it easier to predict and understand the words.
- Read newspapers. Newspapers are an effective tool for learning basic language because they typically use correct grammar and are written in an easy-to-understand style. You can read online newspapers such as the New York Times or The Guardian.

Watch Movies. Watching movies is another great way to improve your English by enhancing listening skills and learning new vocabulary. You can watch movies with subtitles, but you’ll gain more by turning them off. Once you’ve built a basic vocabulary, try watching without subtitles and focus on listening to the words you know and guessing the meaning of new words based on the context in the film.

Play MMO Games. MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games are online games with multiple players. You can choose to play with people from English-speaking countries to have the opportunity to chat and learn from them. Try games like Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, or The Elder Scrolls Online.

Find Pen Pals Online. Pen pals are people who are learning the language you use to write letters (or emails), and they send you replies. You write part of the letter in your native language for them to practice and the other part in English for you to practice. You can write about anything you like! You can find pen pals on various online platforms.

Make Friends. You can also make friends with native English speakers online and chat, write letters, and speak on Skype to practice English. You can find online friends by joining fan communities or language exchange groups like Fluentify.
Singing Songs. Learning and singing songs is another effective way to improve your English. This method helps you understand English sounds (the rhythm will assist you in learning pronunciation). It also helps to expand your vocabulary. Find a song you like, study it, and explore the meaning behind the lyrics.

Make the Most of Online Tools. There are many online tools to help you learn English faster, from flashcards to mobile apps. You can use ANKI (flashcards), Memrise (flashcards and more), or Forvo (pronunciation guides).

Immerse Yourself. This is one of the most effective language learning methods. It means dedicating yourself to learning English every day, with a minimum of 3 hours a day. Just one hour per week won’t be enough. If you can commit at least 6 hours to listening, writing, and speaking in English, this will give you the best results.
Do's and Don'ts

Learn Words in Small Groups. When learning new vocabulary, avoid overwhelming yourself with too many words. Focus on learning just a few words at a time, and don’t move on to new ones until you’re truly comfortable with them.

Label Everything in Your House. Label objects around your home to help you learn vocabulary. This technique helps you associate words with images, instead of having to translate everything in your head.
Leverage Google Images. Searching Google Images is a useful method for learning nouns (and other types of words) in any language. By searching for a new word through the image search tool, the images that appear will help you absorb the meaning!

Avoid Using Flashcards. In general, you should not rely on flashcards that only have vocabulary (English word on one side and native language word on the other). This teaches you to translate everything, slowing down your comprehension when listening in English. Instead, focus on learning English words with sounds or images.

Don't Overemphasize Grammar. One thing about English is that most people don’t speak with perfect grammar, and few can apply grammar rules fluently in conversation. If you spend all your time studying grammar, you’ll waste a lot of time. You may not speak perfectly, but others will correct you, and you’ll improve over time. Eventually, your speech will sound accurate, and you won’t need to think about it.

Don't Hesitate to Try! The most important thing when learning a language quickly is to speak as much as possible. Use your language skills as often as you can. Don’t worry about making mistakes or saying something wrong. Not using your skills will slow your learning. Instead, speak as much as you can because you’re capable of doing it!
