This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to monetize your YouTube channel and connect it to an AdSense account to receive payments using a web browser. After verifying your account and agreeing to YouTube's monetization terms, you can link your AdSense account in Creator Studio to start earning ad revenue and receiving payments. You can also initiate the monetization process and link your AdSense account immediately, but you must meet YouTube's minimum requirements of 4,000 watch hours and 1,000 subscribers to enable monetization.
Steps
Start the YouTube Channel Monetization Process
Access YouTube via a web browser. Type or paste https://www.youtube.com into the address bar, then press ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return on your keyboard.
Click on the profile picture at the top right corner. A menu will appear next to the thumbnail of your profile picture in the upper right corner of the page.
- If you are not automatically logged into your account, click the blue SIGN IN button at the top right corner to log in.
Click on the Your channel option in the menu. This is the first option in the displayed menu. Your channel will open on a new page.
- If you see the Creator Studio button in the menu, click it to access the Creator Studio dashboard.
Click the blue CREATOR STUDIO button at the top right corner. This button is located next to the CUSTOMIZE CHANNEL button in the upper right corner of your channel. The dashboard will appear on the screen after clicking.
Click on CHANNEL in the left-hand menu. Once inside Creator Studio, click on the CHANNEL tab in the menu on the left.
Click the Enable button in the "Monetization" section. This will display the steps to set up monetization for your channel on a new page.
- If you see "Ineligible" under the Monetization heading, you need to verify your account and try again.
Click the START button. This button appears next to the first step under the "Apply for monetization" heading. A window titled "YouTube Partner Program Terms" will pop up on the screen.
- You can also check the box at the end to receive updates from YouTube via your personal email (this is an optional choice).
Click the blue I accept button. This button is located at the bottom right corner of the displayed window. By doing this, you complete the first step of the monetization setup process.
- You can now link your AdSense account to your YouTube channel.
Link Your AdSense Account
Click the blue START button next to "Sign Up for AdSense." After completing the first step of the monetization process, you can link an existing AdSense account or create a new one in the second step.
Click the Next button. When you see the message "You will be redirected to AdSense..." under the "Monetization" heading, click this button at the bottom of the page to open AdSense.
Select the Google AdSense account you want to link. You will be prompted to choose a Google account to connect your AdSense account with your YouTube channel.
- If you want to use an existing AdSense account, select it here.
- If you choose a Google account without an AdSense profile, you will be redirected to create a new AdSense profile.
Click the blue LINK TO YOUTUBE button. This button is located at the bottom of the AdSense page. Clicking it will link your AdSense account to your YouTube channel and return you to the Creator Studio.
- After linking your AdSense account, you can proceed to complete the monetization profile or return later to finish it.
Complete the Monetization Process
Click the START button next to "Set monetization preferences." After linking with AdSense, you can proceed to the third step in setting up monetization for your YouTube channel.
- A new window will appear with monetization options.
Ensure the "Monetize all existing and future videos" slider is turned on. The slider will turn blue when activated. When this option is enabled, all videos will be monetized, and you will earn ad revenue.
- If you disable this option, none of your videos will be monetized unless you manually enable monetization for specific videos. You will need to activate monetization for each video in the VIDEO MANAGER section.
Click the SAVE button. This button is located at the bottom right corner of the displayed window. By doing this, you complete the third step of the monetization process and will be returned to the "Monetization" page.
Meet the watch hour and subscriber requirements. Your channel's monetization application will be officially reviewed by YouTube once you meet the minimum watch hours and subscriber count. Your channel will need at least:
- 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months.
- 1,000 subscribers.
- You can check your progress in step 4 on the "Monetization" page.
- The official channel review process begins once you meet the watch hour requirement.
