Running out of snacks? Need a simple meal to enjoy while heading out? Craving a snack that won’t get you labeled as "snacking" by your mom? If these concerns sound familiar, you've come to the right place. This article will provide you with a simple recipe for a delicious and familiar treat: the grilled cheese sandwich.
Ingredients
- Any type of cheese, sliced thinly
- A few slices of sandwich bread
- Butter
- Additional ingredients such as: onions, mayonnaise, pepper, deli meats, etc.
Steps
Use a frying pan

Choose a frying pan that suits the number of sandwiches you wish to make.
Heat the pan over medium heat. While the pan is warming up, slice the cheese thinly and prepare the bread. It’s best to add a few teaspoons of water to the pan while heating it. Once the water boils, the pan will be hot enough to add the first slice of bread. Make sure to pour out the water before adding the bread.
Put butter in the pan or spread it on the outside of the bread, then place a slice of bread onto the pan with cheese on top. You can also add olive oil to the pan if you prefer. Then, place the second slice of bread on top of the cheese. Lower the heat and cover the pan to allow the cheese to melt.
Check if the bread has turned brown after about a minute and a half, although you might need extra time to achieve your desired result. Once the bread has browned enough, flip the top side of the bread down. Remove any remaining butter from the pan to ensure the next slice of bread has a nice color.
Note that the other side will brown very quickly, so be ready to check it regularly. Once the bread reaches the desired color, turn off the heat, plate the sandwich, and enjoy.

Plate and enjoy the sandwich.
Use an oven

Prepare the ingredients and have them ready on the kitchen counter.
Make sure the oven is set to the correct temperature, typically 180–200°C. Have the plate and knife ready.
Place two slices of bread on a plate with the rounded edges facing each other. This will make it easier to prepare the sandwich. Then, place a slice of cheese on each piece of bread. Make sure the cheese doesn't spill out over the edges, as melted cheese oozing out can look messy.
Carefully arrange the bread in the oven as you would on the plate. Close the oven door and turn it on. Toast the bread for about 1-3 minutes. Just wait for the oven to notify you when it's done.
Open the oven and remove the baking tray. Carefully take each slice of bread and quickly place it on the plate. Repeat the process with the other slice of bread, but this time, place it on top of the first slice with the cheese side facing inward. Align the edges of the two slices. Press them together until you feel the cheese has made them stick. You can add some pepper to enhance the flavor of the sandwich.

Serve the sandwich for enjoyment.
Use a charcoal grill.
Place the bread on the grill rack. Put a slice of bread on the rack and layer cheese on top of it.
Wait. Wait until the bread reaches the desired golden brown color, then place the second slice of bread on top.
Flip the bread slice. Flip the bread so both sides are toasted to a golden color and the cheese melts. Using tongs will make this process easier.

Enjoy! Let the sandwich cool down a bit before eating.
Use a traditional toaster and microwave.

Place the bread in the toaster. Toast for about 10-20 seconds, no longer.
Place the cheese on the bread. Put the sandwich in the microwave for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Remove the grilled cheese sandwich from the microwave. Cut the sandwich diagonally to allow the steam to escape.

Enjoy it your way.
