Steps
Making a Milkshake with a Blender
Pour 2 cups (475ml) of milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and chocolate syrup (if desired). Add the ingredients to the blender and blend for about 15-20 seconds. This step helps release the air and blends everything evenly.
- The thicker the milk you use (e.g., 2% milk), the thicker your milkshake will be.
Add ¾ cup (100g) of sugar to the blender. Blend for an additional 5-10 seconds.
Add ice. It’s best to use crushed ice. Keep an eye on the blender because if you blend for too long, the milkshake will become too runny.
Pour the milkshake into a glass and enjoy. Drink the milkshake immediately after blending – it tastes best while it’s still cold and the ice hasn’t melted yet.
Making a Milkshake in a Bag
Take a plastic bag and pour the milk into it. The bag you use should be one that can seal tightly.
Add 1 teaspoon of sugar to the milk. Stir gently to dissolve the sugar.
Drop a few drops of vanilla extract into the bag. Then stir everything well.
Fill a larger bag halfway with ice. The second bag should be large enough to hold the smaller bag and still be sealable. A 1-liter bag works best for this purpose.
Place the bag with the milk mixture into a larger bag. The ice will help you create the milkshake, but it won’t be mixed into the drink itself. The milk bag remains completely separate from the ice bag.
Add ¼ teaspoon of salt to the ice bag. The salt will trigger an exothermic reaction and is an essential step for thickening the mixture!
Shake for about 5-7 minutes or until the mixture reaches the consistency of a milkshake. You’ll need to shake vigorously to thicken the mixture. If the mixture is still not thick enough after 7 minutes, feel free to continue shaking.
Open the small milk bag and pour it into a glass. Now, all that’s left to do is enjoy your milkshake!
Making a Milkshake with Crushed Ice
Place the ingredients into the blender. If using fruit, it’s best to cut it into small pieces.
Start the blender to evenly mix all the ingredients.
Add crushed ice. Blend again to mix thoroughly.
Pour the milkshake into a glass. The crushed ice will make the milkshake cold and thick.
Tips
- Add Oreo cookies for a unique flavor.
- Wrap a towel around the bag to keep your hands warm while shaking.
- Shake the bag outdoors to avoid the risk of it bursting and making a mess indoors.
- Add a tablespoon of peanut butter for a rich chocolate peanut butter milkshake.
- Stir in a tablespoon of instant coffee for a mocha-flavored milkshake.
- Add some berries for a distinctive taste that makes the milkshake even more delicious. The more you add, the better!
- Include a ripe banana for a chocolate banana milkshake.
- If you have diabetes, consider using sugar substitutes for a healthier option.
- Get some help with shaking the bag as it can be tiring on your hands.
- You can heat the milk to thicken it before cooling it down.
- Don’t add too much ice, as it will make the milkshake too watery.
- If desired, top the finished milkshake with whipped cream for an extra touch.
Warnings
- Don’t add too much vanilla extract to the milk as it will make it bitter.
- This type of milkshake is cold but not as thick as others.
