Ready to take your Facebook chatting experience to the next level? Make free video calls to your friends on Facebook using either the Facebook website or the Messenger app. Video calls don’t require any extra software, but if you’re using a computer, only certain browsers support this feature.
Steps
Using Messenger on a Mobile Device

Start a conversation with the person you want to call. You can initiate a call with one person, as Facebook currently does not support video calling in group chats.

Tap the video call button at the top of the conversation to start the call.
- If the button is greyed out or not visible, the person you want to call is currently unavailable to receive the call.

Wait for the other person to answer. The person you're calling will be notified that they have an incoming video call. They can answer using either the Messenger app or Facebook's website, along with a webcam.

Tap the camera switch button to toggle between the front and rear cameras. You can press this button during the video call to change the camera view on Messenger.
Using Facebook Website

Connect a webcam to your computer (if necessary). If your computer isn’t connected to a webcam yet, you’ll need to set it up before making the video call.

Open the chat on the Facebook page. You will click on the chat box in the bottom right corner to open the conversation if needed.
- You'll need browsers like Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. Video calling is not supported on Internet Explorer, Safari, or Edge browsers.

Select the person you want to video call. You can choose someone from your regular chat list or search for them by typing their name in the search field at the bottom of the list.
- Currently, Facebook only supports video calls with one person. Group video calling may be added in the future.

Click the video call button. This button looks like a small camera icon. A new window will appear.
- If you can't click the video call button, the recipient is unavailable to take the call.

Allow Facebook to access your webcam. This process will vary depending on the browser you are using. Usually, you will need to click 'Allow' or 'Share' to give Facebook access to your webcam.

Wait for the other person to answer. The person you're calling will receive a notification of the incoming call through Facebook or Messenger, depending on what device they're using. Your video chat will start when they choose to answer.
