One of the most creative ways to serve alcohol at a party is by incorporating colorful fruit jelly. The process of making alcohol-flavored jelly is quite simple and mirrors the process for making regular jelly. This article will show you how to create delicious, easy-to-make alcohol jelly, along with some creative ideas beyond the traditional alcohol-flavored jelly.
Steps
Traditional Alcohol Jelly

Ingredients needed. To make about 32 servings of 30ml jelly cups, you will need:
- 1 package of 170g agar-agar powder
- Approximately 3 cups of water
- About 1 cup of cold alcohol of your choice

Mix the water and alcohol into two separate cups. The ratio will depend on the alcohol content of the drink you're using. Use the following proportions for the jelly to set properly:
- 390ml of alcohol with 30-50 proof (approximately 20%) mixed with 90ml of water.
- 300ml of alcohol with 80-100 proof (about 45%) mixed with 180ml of water.
- 180ml of alcohol with 150-200 proof mixed with 300ml of water.
Place the mixture in the fridge. Allow the mixture to chill completely before moving to the next step. This is important because the boiling point of alcohol is about 79°C. When mixing alcohol with boiling water (100°C), if the alcohol isn't cold, it will exceed its boiling point and cause some evaporation. This will result in the jelly not having a strong alcohol flavor.
Boil just over 1 cup of water. You need exactly 1 cup of boiling water, so make sure to add a bit more water to the pot or kettle, as some will evaporate during the boiling process.
Measure 1 cup of boiling water and stir in the agar-agar powder. Stir well until the powder dissolves completely.
Stir in the chilled water and alcohol mixture.
Spray a bit of non-stick product inside the cup to easily release the jelly once it's finished. A small spoon or a popsicle stick will also work effectively.
Pour the mixture into the cup.
Place the jelly in a tray and refrigerate (not freeze). Chill until the jelly sets (about 2 to 4 hours). Keep the jelly in the fridge until ready to eat, and it's best enjoyed cold.
Jelly with a liquor and orange slice shape
Arrange the jelly on orange slices for an interesting and unique presentation. Be careful when removing the orange segments to ensure the peel doesn’t stick to the jelly.
Cut the orange in half.
Use a spoon to remove all the orange segments, leaving only the peel of one half.
Pour the jelly mixture into the orange peel.
Chill the orange peel with the jelly overnight. Although the jelly will set after a few hours, allowing it to chill for a longer period will make the jelly firmer and prevent it from breaking when you slice it.
Cut the orange half into three pieces. You can refer to the jelly with liquor in orange tutorial for a detailed guide on how to make it.
Layered liquor jelly
Making a layered liquor jelly allows you to combine different colors and flavors. To achieve multiple layers, refrigerate each layer for 10 minutes before adding the next one.
Take 3 packs of jelly powder in 3 different colors.
For one pack of jelly, reduce the ingredients in the recipe by half.
Pour the first layer of jelly into the bottom third of the cup.
Wait for the jelly to set.
Repeat the same process for the second layer. Pour the second layer of jelly into the cup that already has the first layer. This will be the second color layer. Now, the jelly fills two-thirds of the cup.
Wait for the second layer to set.
Add the remaining jelly to fill the cup. This will be the third color layer.
Allow all three layers of jelly to set completely before serving.
Green liquor-flavored jelly
To achieve a green color, you can use food coloring. When using flavorless gelatin, you’ll end up with a clear jelly that you can color with any shade you prefer.
Make the regular liquor-flavored jelly using yellow jelly powder.
Before pouring the jelly into the cup, add green and/or blue food coloring to give the jelly a green hue. You can make several layers of jelly in different shades of green as you like.
Enjoy. This type of jelly is perfect for celebrating Saint Patrick's Day or Earth Day.
Strong liquor-flavored jelly (with Vodka)
This jelly has a very strong liquor flavor, with 22ml or 45ml of vodka in each cup. So, it’s best to consume it mindfully.
Use one pack of 85g jelly powder. Lemon and orange flavors work well as they pair similarly with vodka-based drinks. Cherry flavor will remind you of cough syrup. Avoid using blueberry or grape flavors.
Stir the jelly powder into ½ cup of boiling water. Don’t rush this step—the water must be truly boiling to dissolve the powder, and the mixture won’t set if you use less than ½ cup of water.
Stir the mixture until the powder is completely dissolved.
Add 1-3/4 cups of 80-proof vodka to the mixture. You can add up to 2-1/4 cups of 80-proof vodka since the jelly will still set. However, if you exceed 1-3/4 cups, the jelly will become soft and the alcohol flavor will be overpowering.
Pour the mixture into the cups. Using 1-3/4 cups of vodka will yield 18 30ml jelly cups or 9 60ml cups.
Jellobah liquor-flavored jelly
Mix one pack of Jellobah liquor-flavored jelly powder into 200ml of water. Stir until the powder is fully dissolved.
Add 200ml of your preferred liquor, or 100ml of liquor and 100ml of another beverage mix.
Pour the mixture into a drinking glass.
Wait for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Now, you've got ready-to-eat alcohol-flavored jelly. No need to freeze it. Just enjoy!

Tips
- To make firmer jelly, you can add one packet of flavorless gelatin to the mixture before stirring it with hot water. The flavorless gelatin will help set the jelly, making it perfect for pouring into molds.
- You can use 30-90ml glass, plastic cups, or squeezable cups specifically for alcohol-flavored jelly. While glass cups look elegant and let you see the colors of the jelly, paper cups make it easier to eat the jelly as you can push it out. Otherwise, you’ll need to bring a spoon for dessert to the party.
Warning
- Do not let children mistake this for regular jelly.
- Although the alcohol-flavored jelly tastes like candy, it contains an alcohol content comparable to or higher than beer, liquor, or shots. Make sure to inform guests to wait a few minutes before continuing to eat, and keep track of how many they consume to avoid overindulging.
- Jelly is not suitable for vegetarians. Gelatin is a protein derived from the partial hydrolysis of collagen extracted from animal bones, connective tissues, organs, and intestines. If you have vegetarian or vegan guests, choose vegetarian-friendly jelly powder instead of gelatin. Most supermarkets carry this product.
- Children may feel discomfort and even become intoxicated if they consume jelly containing alcohol.
