Is your hair in need of moisture? Eggs and olive oil, two inexpensive kitchen ingredients, can transform your hair from dull and lifeless to soft and shiny after just one treatment. Using this mask once a week will keep your hair healthy and vibrant throughout the seasons.
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Steps
Hair Mask for Dry Hair

Separate the egg yolk from the egg white. For a dry hair mask, you only need the yolk, not the white. Egg yolk contains fats and proteins that moisturize and restore dry, lifeless hair. Separate the yolk from the white and place it in a small bowl.
- To easily separate the egg, crack it on the edge of the bowl. Hold the egg upright over the bowl and carefully remove the top half of the shell. Transfer the yolk between the two shell halves to let the white fall into the bowl, then place the yolk in another bowl. Alternatively, you can use egg oil as a substitute.
Whisk the egg yolk or egg oil with olive oil. Pour olive oil into the bowl with the egg yolk and whisk until the mixture becomes fluffy and smooth. You’ll get half a cup of mask mixture, enough to cover medium-length hair.
- If your hair is very thick and long, add an extra tablespoon of olive oil.
- For short hair, use only one tablespoon of olive oil.

Apply the mixture to damp hair. Slightly damp hair makes it easier to spread the mask from roots to tips. Use a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute the mixture, ensuring every strand is coated.
- If your ends are very dry, apply more of the mixture to the tips than the roots.
- If you have leftover mixture, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Let the mixture sit in your hair for about 20 minutes. To keep things tidy, you can loosely bun your hair and cover it with a shower cap. Wait patiently for the mixture to work its magic on your dry hair.

Rinse your hair with cool water. Shampoo will wash away any remaining oil and egg, leaving your hair soft, shiny, and tangle-free. Remember to use cool or slightly warm water to prevent the egg from "cooking" in your hair.

Dry your hair as usual. Let it air dry or use a blow dryer. Your newly nourished hair will now feel softer and healthier.
Hair Mask for Oily Hair

Separate the egg white from the yolk. If your scalp is oily, the yolk may provide too much moisture, so only the egg white is needed for this mask. The egg white will gently remove excess oil, leaving your hair sleek and shiny. Separate the white from the yolk and set the yolk aside.
- To separate the egg easily, crack it on the edge of a bowl. Hold the egg upright over the bowl and carefully remove the top half of the shell. Transfer the yolk between the two shell halves to let the white fall into the bowl.

- If your hair is very thick and long, add an extra tablespoon of olive oil or another egg white.
- For short hair, use only one tablespoon of olive oil or skip the extra egg white.

- If your ends are very dry, focus more on applying the mixture to the tips rather than the roots.

Try Other Methods

Use only eggs for hair care. If you don’t have olive oil and need a quick natural hair treatment, whisk together both the egg yolk and white. After shampooing, use a comb to apply the egg mixture to wet hair from roots to tips. Leave it on for five minutes, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. This simple treatment works well for all hair types.
Enhance your hair mask with additional ingredients. If your hair is particularly dry and brittle, you can go beyond the basic egg and olive oil mixture. Try adding a tablespoon of one of the following ingredients for a more effective mask:
- Honey
- Aloe vera gel
- Milk
- Ripe avocado or banana

Replace olive oil with other oils. While olive oil is great for first-time hair masks, you might want to experiment with other oils to see what works best for your hair. Try one of these oils for your next mask:
- Jojoba oil: for oily or normal hair
- Almond oil: for normal or dry hair
- Coconut oil: for dry hair
- Liquid shea butter: to nourish hair and prevent graying

Add fragrance to your hair mask. If you want your hair mask to smell like a luxurious salon treatment rather than your kitchen, try adding essential oils. A few drops can transform the scent of your mask. While waiting for the mask to work, enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy. Add five to ten drops of one of these essential oils:
- Lavender
- Rose
- Lemongrass
- Thyme
- Vetiver
Tips
- The longer you leave the mask on, the softer your hair will become.
- Before applying the mask, massage your scalp for five minutes to improve blood circulation to the area.
