With proper care, that annoying bruise can fade away in just a few days if you consistently apply the techniques listed below. Keep reading to learn about at-home remedies and pharmaceutical creams that can help reduce the appearance of bruises.
Steps
Treating the Wound

Apply a Cold Compress to the Bruise. Apply a cold compress to the bruise for 15 minutes every few hours during the first few days after the injury. The cold compress will help reduce inflammation and swelling, promoting faster healing of the bruise.

Apply a Warm Compress After Two Days. After reducing swelling with ice, you should apply a warm (but not too hot) compress directly to the bruise. This will enhance blood circulation to the tissue and speed up the healing process.

Elevate the Bruise. If the bruise is on an area of your body like your arm or leg that can be elevated, make sure to raise it above your heart to minimize blood flow to the bruise. This will reduce swelling and prevent excessive blood from flowing to the injured area, helping to minimize discoloration. Elevating the bruise is most effective right after the injury occurs.

Avoid Intense Physical Activity. During the first few days after a severe bruise, avoid heavy physical activities that could accelerate blood circulation throughout your body. The more blood that flows to the bruise, the worse its condition will become.

Gently Massage the Injured Area. Use your thumb to gently massage the outer edges of the bruise. Don’t press hard or attempt to massage the center of the bruise as this will cause pain. Make sure to massage in small circular motions. This will stimulate the lymphatic process, helping the bruise to naturally fade from your body.

Expose the Bruise to Sunlight. If possible, expose the bruise to direct sunlight for 10-15 minutes each day. The UV rays will help break down the bilirubin, the substance responsible for the yellowish color of the bruise. Sun exposure will speed up this process, helping the bruise heal faster.
Use Home Remedies

Rub Vinegar and Water on the Bruise. Mix vinegar and warm water, then apply it gently to the injured area. Vinegar will increase blood circulation to the skin's surface, helping the bruise heal faster.
Eat Pineapple and Papaya. Pineapple and papaya contain an enzyme called bromelain, which breaks down proteins that cause blood and fluids to accumulate in tissues. Eat more pineapple to absorb bromelain and help your body heal the bruise.

Apply and Take Vitamin C. Use two methods to take vitamin C to speed up the healing of your bruise.
- First, ensure you're getting enough vitamin C from foods like oranges, mangoes, broccoli, and potatoes. You should also supplement with other sources of vitamin C to meet your daily requirement.
- Crush vitamin C tablets and mix them with a little water to form a paste. Apply this paste directly to the bruised area and let it dry before rinsing off with water.

Use Blueberry Extract. The compounds in blueberries, including anthocyanosides, have antioxidant properties that can help reduce the appearance of bruises by stabilizing collagen and strengthening capillaries. You can find blueberry extract in supplements available at health food stores.

Crush Parsley and Apply Directly to the Bruise. Parsley contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help bruises fade quickly.

Consume Fresh Ginger. Similar to parsley, ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and benefits your immune system. Slice and soak ginger in hot water for a few minutes before drinking. Alternatively, you can crush ginger or use the peel and apply it directly to the bruise.

Mix Cayenne Pepper with Vaseline. Apply this mixture around the bruise and leave it for a few hours. Wipe off with tissue if needed. Do this once a day until the bruise disappears.

Use a Bellflower Root Mixture. Grind bellflower roots and add a little water to form a paste or soak a cotton ball in bellflower root tea. Apply the mixture or cotton ball to the bruised area once daily until the bruise disappears.

Soak the Bruise in Witch Hazel Oil. Witch hazel can speed up healing and reduce inflammation. Apply the oil and leave it for a few hours. Repeat at least once a day until the bruise is gone.
