Flubber, a whimsical substance, became famous through the 1997 comedy film starring Robin Williams. It also refers to a fun, handmade material that children adore. Flubber is typically squishy, gooey, and a bit messy—what more could kids love? Creating various types of Flubber is both entertaining and straightforward. Robin Williams would surely be proud of that.
Ingredients
Basic Flubber
- 1 and 1/4 cups of warm water
- 1 cup of white school glue
- 2 tablespoons of Borax powder
- Food coloring (optional)
Gak (Flubber Without Borax)
- 1 cup of glue
- 1 cup of liquid starch
- Food coloring
Edible Flubber
- 1 can (about 400g) of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- Food coloring
Steps
Making Basic Flubber

Mix 3/4 cup of water with 1 cup of glue in a bowl. Stir the mixture thoroughly until well combined. Then, set the mixture aside.
In a separate bowl, add 2 tablespoons of Borax powder and 1/2 cup of water. Stir until the Borax powder is completely dissolved.
Combine the two mixtures. Stir the ingredients together until evenly mixed. Add a few drops of food coloring until the mixture reaches your desired color.
Place the mixture into a ziplock plastic bag. Seal the bag tightly, ensuring it is completely closed. Knead the mixture for a few minutes, and your Flubber is ready. You can store the Flubber in the same bag used for kneading.
Finish.
Making Gak (Flubber Without Borax)
Pour 1 cup of white glue into a bowl. Add a few drops of food coloring until you achieve the desired color.
Add 1 cup of liquid starch to the glue mixture. Stir thoroughly. Once the glue and liquid starch are well combined, the mixture will become very thick.
Stir in more liquid starch if the mixture is too sticky. The liquid starch will make the glue stretchy instead of sticky. Note that Gak can stick to clothes and carpets, but it can be easily removed by rubbing with a bit of warm water.
Store Gak in an airtight container.
Making Edible Flubber
Pour 1 can (approximately 400g) of sweetened condensed milk into a small pot.Turn on the stove to low heat.Add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to the pot.
Tips
- Clean Flubber with water if it gets dirty.
- Flubber can only be stored for up to 3 weeks. After that, you may notice hair and dust sticking to it, making it less enjoyable.
Warnings
- Borax powder is toxic. Do not ingest it, and ensure children do not do so either. Supervise children when making Flubber with Borax powder.
