This recipe introduces a rectangular-shaped pastry that is wrapped with multiple layers of dough encasing a savory meat filling. For those who are passionate about layered pastries with meat, nothing compares to its delicious taste.
Layered dough is often used as the base for these pastries because of its rich flavor, light texture, and fluffy layers. Inside the dough, you'll find a unique filling made with minced meat, breadcrumbs, herbs, and spices.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets of layered dough (equivalent to one pre-packaged box or 500g of dough)
- 500g minced pork
- 500g minced beef
- 2 cups of plain breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon ground sage
- 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- Beaten egg or milk for glazing the pastry
Steps

Preheat the oven to 170°C. Place the baking rack in the center of the oven.

Combine ground pork, ground beef, breadcrumbs, and seasonings in a bowl. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly.

Roll the dough so thin that it's only about 3mm thick.

Shape the meat mixture into a sausage-like form by rolling it with your palms. Lay the meat horizontally, ensuring both ends are close to the edges of the dough. However, leave a small gap along the dough's edge to seal and secure the filling inside.

Moisten both ends of the dough and seal the filling inside by gently pinching the edges with your fingertips.

Cut the cake into 10cm long slices, use a knife to make a few slashes on the surface of the cake, and brush it with egg or milk.

Place the tray with parchment paper in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the cake turns golden brown. Enjoy the cake while it’s hot or once it has cooled down.

Finish the process.
Tips
- Using egg yolk, beaten and brushed onto the cake, instead of milk will give it a glossy finish.
- Substitute with double the amount of pork instead of beef if you want to prepare the cake with a traditional flavor.
