Slime is a sticky toy that provides plenty of fun. It can be used in sensory play for younger children and to help older kids improve their concentration. However, some slime recipes can get too sticky, leading to discomfort and messes! Fortunately, there are several easy ways to fix slime that’s overly sticky. You can even try a less sticky slime recipe for your next experiment.

- 1 tablespoon (15ml) of contact lens cleaning solution
StepsFixing Overly Sticky Slime

Sprinkle about ½ teaspoon (2g) of baking soda. Sprinkle the baking soda onto the slime and knead with your hands. Keep kneading until the slime is no longer sticky. If the slime remains sticky after adding baking soda, add ⅛ teaspoon (0.5g) and knead once more.
- It's important not to add too much baking soda as this can reduce the slime's elasticity. Knead the slime well before adding more baking soda.

Add 1 teaspoon (5ml) of contact lens cleaning solution. First, pour the contact lens solution onto the slime. Then, knead the slime with the solution. After a few minutes, the slime should no longer be sticky. If it remains sticky, add another ¼ teaspoon of contact lens solution and knead again.
- Make sure not to add too much contact lens solution, as it can make the slime rubbery and brittle.

Add 1 teaspoon (5ml) of baby oil to reduce stickiness and add shine. Baby oil is a common ingredient in glossy slime recipes and can help reduce stickiness. Try kneading 1 teaspoon of baby oil into the slime. Keep kneading until the oil is absorbed and the slime is no longer sticky.
- Do not add more than 1 teaspoon of baby oil, as it may make the slime slimy and lose its stretchiness.

Knead the slime until it's no longer sticky. If you don't want to add other ingredients to the slime, just keep kneading! This helps the ingredients bind together and triggers a chemical reaction. Press the slime with your palms and fingers, stretch it, roll it into a ball, and press it again. Keep doing this until the slime becomes less sticky.
Tip: To prevent the slime from sticking to your hands while kneading, apply a thick layer of hand cream or a little oil, such as baby oil.

Pour 120ml of white glue into a bowl. Regular white glue works best for this recipe. Avoid using clear or glitter glue.
Stir in 2-3 drops of your favorite food coloring. This step is optional, but it adds color to the slime. If you skip this, your slime will remain white. Stir the mixture until the color is evenly blended and no streaks remain.
Tip: Note that your slime will always have a lighter shade, regardless of how much color you add.

Add 1.5 cups (360g) of shaving cream. While you don't need an exact measurement, try using around 1.5 cups of shaving cream. Make sure to use a regular white shaving cream, rather than gel.
- Men's shaving cream is the best option, as it's white and doesn't affect the color of the slime.
- Though you can use women's shaving cream, be aware that it often has a pale pink or purple hue, which can alter the slime's color.

Stir the mixture thoroughly. You can use a spoon or a plastic spatula to mix. While stirring, make sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl to ensure all ingredients are well combined. Once fully mixed, you will have a fluffy slime.
- The slime might still be a little sticky at this point. Don’t worry, you have one more ingredient to add!

Add the contact lens solution containing boric acid. Measure about 2.5 tablespoons (38ml) of contact lens solution. Slowly pour the solution into the slime while stirring. Keep stirring until the slime starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl. You may not need to use all the solution.
- The contact lens solution must contain boric acid. Without it, the slime won’t turn out correctly. Be sure to check the ingredients on the label.

Knead the slime for a few minutes until it’s no longer sticky. Take the slime out of the bowl with your hands; it
will be a little sticky. Knead the slime by stretching it and folding it back. Keep doing this for a few more minutes until it stops sticking.
- If the slime is still sticky, add ¼ teaspoon of contact lens solution and knead it again.
Store the slime in a sealed container when not in use. Since the slime contains shaving cream, it will only last for about 1 to 2 days. After that, the slime will dry out, so it’s best to dispose of it.
Use laundry detergent and baking soda.

Pour 120ml of white glue into a bowl. Do not use transparent glue, as it contains different ingredients and will not create the correct type of slime.

Stir in the appropriate amount of laundry detergent to turn the white glue into slime. Add ½ teaspoon of detergent each time until the glue begins to clump together and no longer sticks to the bowl. The amount of detergent required will depend on the brand, but you will need about 2.5 tablespoons (38ml).
- Laundry detergents come in various colors and scents. Choose one that you like.
Tip: If you're using clear laundry detergent and want to create colored slime, stir in 2-3 drops of food coloring into the mixture.

Mix baking soda and water in a separate cup. Add 1 teaspoon (4g) of baking soda and 1 tablespoon (15ml) of water to the cup. You don't need to measure the ingredients precisely, but make sure the mixture becomes cloudy. If the mixture is too thick, with the spoon leaving stripes, add more water.
Add the baking soda mixture into the slime until it stops being sticky. Measure 1 teaspoon (5ml) of the baking soda mixture and pour it into the slime. Stir the slime, then repeat the process until the slime is no longer sticky. You may not need to use all of the baking soda mixture.
- If you run out of the baking soda mixture, you can make more.
Knead the slime for a few minutes. Take the slime out of the bowl, stretch it, and then roll it back up. Repeat this process a few times. As you continue kneading, you'll notice that the slime becomes less sticky.
Store the slime in a sealed container when you're not using it. This type of slime doesn't last long, so enjoy it while it's still stretchy. After 2-3 days, the slime will dry out and should be discarded.

Pour 120ml of white glue into a bowl. Do not use clear glue for this recipe, as it contains different ingredients and will not create the ideal slime.

Mix in ½ tablespoon (8g) of baking soda. You can use a spoon or a plastic spatula to stir the mixture. As you add the baking soda, you'll notice the glue starting to thicken, which is perfectly normal.
Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to the mixture and stir again. This is not a necessary step, but it will make your slime look more appealing. If you don't add food coloring, the slime will remain white.
- Try adding a few drops of green food coloring for green slime, or use 2 drops of yellow and 1 drop of red for orange slime.

Add 1 tablespoon (15ml) of contact lens solution. Pour 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution into the bowl and stir well. This helps the ingredients bind together and form slime. Keep stirring until the mixture no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl.
- Make sure the contact lens solution contains "boric acid".
Knead the slime for a few more minutes to reduce stickiness. First, remove the slime from the bowl. Then, knead it by stretching it with your hands and rolling it back together. Repeat this a few more times. As you knead the slime, you'll notice that it becomes less sticky.

Add more contact lens solution if needed. If the slime is still too sticky, add ¼ tablespoon of contact lens solution and continue kneading.
Store the slime in an airtight container when not in use. This type of slime doesn't last forever, so enjoy it while you can! After about 2-3 days, the slime will become stiff and dry. At this point, it's best to dispose of it.
Tip: Use a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid or a resealable plastic bag to store the slime. You should also label the container or bag and place it somewhere safe, away from food items. Slime is not edible!

Pour 150ml of clear glue into a bowl. Avoid using white glue as it contains different ingredients that won't create the right kind of slime.
- The result will resemble slime or putty, not kinetic sand.

Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the slime. Stir continuously until the baking soda blends into the glue. You can use a plastic spatula or spoon during this step.

Add 2 tablespoons (50g) of colored craft sand. You can purchase colored craft sand at a children's craft store. Measure out about 2 tablespoons of sand and add it to the bowl. Stir well until the sand is fully incorporated into the mixture.
- You can also find colored sand in the floral section of craft stores.
- Alternatively, you can use colored aquarium sand available at pet stores or aquarium shops.

Add 1 tablespoon (15ml) of contact lens solution to the slime. Measure about 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution and add it to the bowl. Stir the mixture until all the ingredients are well combined. Keep stirring until the slime no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl.
- Use contact lens solution containing "boric acid." You should check the ingredients on the product.
Knead the slime, then add more contact lens solution (if needed). Use your hands to take the slime out of the bowl. Stretch the slime with your fingers and then fold it back. Repeat this a few times until the slime becomes less sticky. If the slime is still too sticky, add ½ tablespoon of contact lens solution and knead again.
Create slime in multiple colors and combine them for a unique effect. Repeat the process for each color you want to make. Once you've created all the colors you desire, mix them together to form one large blob of slime. The combination of colors will create a beautiful galaxy-like effect.
Store the slime in an airtight container when not in use. Like all good things, this type of slime doesn't last forever. Eventually, the slime will dry out, especially if you play with it frequently. When the slime becomes dry and hard, it's time to throw it away and make a fresh batch.
- Do not substitute baking powder for baking soda. Although their names are similar, these are completely different ingredients.
Warning
- Do not swallow the slime. It is not a toy for children who are still putting everything in their mouths.
