Slime is incredibly popular among children because playing with it is simply fun! Making slime at home is easy and more cost-effective. Here are four different methods to create various types of slime.
Ingredients
Basic Slime
- 1/2 cup of white glue
- 1.5 cups of warm water
- Food coloring (optional)
- 1 tablespoon of borax powder
Living Slime
- 3/4 cup of cornstarch
- 2 cups of vegetable oil
- 1 piece of styrofoam
Edible Slime
- 1 can (400g) of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- 10-15 drops of food coloring
Soap Flake Slime
- 1 cup (125g) of soap flakes
- 5 cups of hot water
- Food coloring (optional)
Steps
Basic Slime

Mix borax powder with warm water. Measure out one tablespoon of borax powder (15g) and one cup of warm water (120ml). Combine these two ingredients in a large bowl. Stir the mixture until the borax powder is completely dissolved.
Combine glue and water. Add 1/2 cup of white glue (60ml) and 1/2 cup of water (60ml) into a separate bowl. Stir until the two ingredients are well blended. The mixture will have a thin consistency.
Add food coloring to the glue mixture. Choose any food coloring you like. Green is a popular choice, but feel free to experiment with any color. Start with a few drops of food coloring and stir. If you want a brighter color, continue adding a few more drops.
- You can also divide the glue mixture into smaller bowls and add different colors to each bowl.
Mix the borax solution with the glue mixture. Combine both mixtures in a large bowl. Stir thoroughly. You’ll see the slime start to form!
- If you’re making small batches in separate bowls, evenly distribute the borax solution into each bowl.
- At this point, you can start kneading the slime with your hands. It might be sticky at first, but keep kneading. Add more borax if needed.
Take the slime out to play! After finishing, there might be some leftover water, which is completely normal. Simply remove the slime from the water and discard the excess liquid.
Living Slime
Mix 3/4 cup of cornstarch (90g) with 2 cups of vegetable oil (240ml). Combine both ingredients in a large bowl and stir thoroughly.
- When making this type of slime (also known as oobleck), you can use alternative ingredients in place of cornstarch.

Refrigerate the mixture. Place the bowl in the refrigerator and let it chill until the mixture is completely cold (about 1 hour). The cold temperature will help the slime solidify and achieve the desired consistency.
Remove the mixture from the refrigerator. Stir it well (as the ingredients may separate). Allow the mixture to warm up slightly and thicken.

Find a piece of styrofoam. The size of the styrofoam can vary, but a standard size is 25x150x150mm. Rub the styrofoam against your hair or a carpet several times to generate static electricity.
Slowly pour the slime mixture into a bowl. Position the styrofoam in front of the slime stream before pouring. The styrofoam should be about 2.5 cm away from the stream. The static electricity will cause the slime to stop flowing and rise on its own.
- Move the styrofoam, and the slime will follow. Kids will be amazed by this!
Edible Slime

Pour the entire can of sweetened condensed milk into a pan. Place the pan on the stove. Add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch (15g) to the milk and stir the two ingredients together.
Heat the mixture on low heat. Turn the heat to low and continue stirring the mixture constantly as it warms up. If you don’t stir continuously, the mixture will stick to the pan.
Remove the mixture from the heat once it thickens. As the temperature rises, the slime will become more pliable and harder to stir. If you notice the mixture reaching this consistency, take the pan off the stove.
Add 10 to 15 drops of food coloring to the mixture. Feel free to choose any color you like! Green is a classic choice, but experiment with other shades or let the kids pick their favorite.

Allow the mixture to cool. Before letting the children play with or consume the slime, ensure it has completely cooled. Slime can transfer color to surfaces, so keep it away from items that are prone to staining or those you wish to protect, especially light-colored objects.
Soap flake slime
Mix 1 cup of soap flakes (120g) with 4 cups of hot water (480ml). Measure the soap flakes and place them in a bowl. Carefully pour the hot water into the bowl. Stir thoroughly until the soap flakes are completely dissolved.

Add a few drops of food coloring (if desired). While optional, food coloring can make your slime more vibrant and fun!

Let the mixture rest for an hour. This step ensures the mixture reaches the ideal consistency.
Stir the mixture vigorously with a spoon. Bubbles will form as you mix. The perfect consistency is achieved when the mixture pours easily and feels sticky to the touch.

Store the slime in an airtight container or bag. Proper storage in an airtight environment keeps the slime fresh. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight or heat.
Tips
- Avoid placing slime on carpets as it can stick and cause a mess.
- Keep slime away from pets and young children to prevent accidental ingestion.
- Gradually mix borax powder into the glue solution, stirring with a spoon. Once thickened, knead the mixture by hand until it transforms into slime.
- For a quick and effective slime recipe, combine glue, laundry detergent, and food coloring, then mix thoroughly.
- Pressing slime into a cup can produce amusing squishing sounds.
- If borax isn't available, cornstarch can be used as an alternative.
- Ensure all ingredients are fully dissolved and mixed.
- Add essential oils or scented soap water to give your slime a pleasant fragrance.
- Mix milk glue and food coloring first, then add borax and water for better results.
- Be cautious with food coloring, as it may stain surfaces or objects.
- When making slime with milk glue and detergent, consider adding shaving cream or foaming hand soap for extra texture.
- Always wash your hands after handling borax-based slime.
- Stir food coloring thoroughly to avoid unexpected reactions.
Warnings
- Borax powder is toxic if ingested. Keep it away from your mouth and ensure children do the same. Always follow instructions carefully.
- Avoid swallowing or inhaling milk glue to prevent health risks.
