This guide will teach you how to merge images using Photoshop on your computer and Adobe Photoshop Mix on mobile devices. You can either purchase a Photoshop license or use the free trial on your computer. For mobile phones or tablets, the Photoshop app doesn't support image merging, so you'll need to download Photoshop Mix from the Google Play Store or the App Store.
Steps
Using a Computer

Open Photoshop on your computer or Mac. This app is typically found in the All Apps section in Windows or the Applications folder on macOS.

Open the first image. To open an image, click on File, select Open, then double-click on the image file.
- To create a new file, press the shortcut Ctrl+N(Windows) or ⌘ Cmd+N(Mac), name the file, and then click OK.

Click on the New Layer icon. This icon, located at the bottom right of the Layers panel, looks like a square sheet of paper with one corner folded. This action will create a new layer for opening the second image.

Open the second image. Click on File > Open, then double-click on the image file you want to open.

Drag, drop, resize, and crop the image. You can use your mouse to move the second image over the first one as desired.
- Click on the dropdown box labeled "Normal" and change it to "Screen" and adjust the Opacity to control the blend between the two layers.
- You can make additional edits in the Layer Panel.

Save the image file. Go to File > Save/Export. When saving the image, the file will be saved with a .psd extension; click Export to change the file from .psd to .jpg or .png.
Using Photoshop Mix

Launch Adobe Photoshop Mix. The app icon looks like two interlocking circles, and it is usually displayed on the home screen or in the app drawer. You can also find it using the search tool.
- If you don't have Adobe Photoshop Mix, you can download it for free from the Google Play Store (Android) or App store (iOS).
- The Photoshop Express app (the regular mobile version of Photoshop) only supports editing one image at a time. You can edit by selecting “Open” from the “File” tab. However, Photoshop Mix requires an Adobe Suite subscription. You can try this app for free for 7 days.
- Sign up or log in if prompted.
Tap on the blue circular icon with a plus (+) sign. This icon is located at the bottom right of the screen and is used to create a new project.

Tap on Device (Device). If you've already saved images on your phone, this will take you to the photo folder on your device. You can tap on other options to open images from different storage locations.

Select an image. You can edit this image using the tools displayed above and below the image.

Tap the small white circular icon with a plus (+) sign. This icon is located to the right of the image. This action will prompt you to open another image.

Tap on Device (Device). If you’ve already saved images on your phone, this action will open the photo directory on your phone. If the images are stored elsewhere, tap the appropriate option to find them.

Tap on an image. The second image will appear on a separate layer in Mix. You may need to resize the image.
- Additional edits can be made using the tools displayed above and below the image.
- Tap on the images to switch between images and layers.

Tap on Save To Gallery to save the composite image. You can also share the image with compatible apps using the ••• options.
