Anyone with basic DIY experience can easily mount an LCD TV on the wall using just a few essential tools. However, even though the task is straightforward, it requires at least two people to complete. One or two individuals are needed to lift the TV (depending on its weight), while another secures the mounting bracket to the wall. With the mounting bracket and all necessary tools ready, the entire process typically takes about an hour to finish.
Steps

Ensure the LCD TV is wall-mountable. Most modern LCD TVs are designed for wall mounting, so this is rarely an issue. However, some older models are intended solely for tabletop use and cannot be mounted on walls.
- To confirm if your LCD TV is wall-mountable, check the user manual to see if it meets the “VESA Compatible” standard. VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) compatibility means the TV can be attached to standard mounting brackets.
- If the user manual is unavailable, inspect the back of the TV. The presence of four or more screw holes indicates that the device can be wall-mounted.

Select a mounting bracket for your LCD TV.
- Consider the TV’s size and the desired tilt or swivel functionality when choosing a bracket. Some brackets fit flush against the wall and do not allow movement after installation. However, many LCD TV brackets enable users to pull the TV away from the wall, tilt, or swivel it as needed. These adjustable brackets are typically more expensive than fixed standard mounts.

Choose the wall section where you plan to mount the LCD TV. Ensure there are no obstructions below the mounting area, as this space will be reserved for cable management.
- Mounting on an interior wall is easier than an exterior one, as it allows for in-wall cable routing. Exterior walls often contain obstacles like studs or fireblocks, making cable access more challenging.

Determine the ideal mounting height for the TV on the wall. Select a position that ensures comfortable viewing and does not obstruct sightlines.

(Optional) Add a power source behind the area where you plan to mount the LCD TV. You can install an in-wall outlet or use an extension cord for power.
- Consider installing a surge protector behind the TV. This compact device can be hidden behind the TV and provides added protection against power fluctuations.

Use a stud finder to locate wall studs and install the mounting bracket. The LCD TV bracket must be secured with at least two bolts anchored into one wall stud for stability. For heavier TVs, experts recommend anchoring the bracket to at least two studs and using two bolts per stud for added security.

Attach the mounting arms to the back of the TV.

Mount the LCD TV on the wall according to the bracket's design. The installation process varies depending on the bracket type, so carefully follow the instructions to ensure the TV is securely attached.
- Note: Tighten all screws to prevent the TV from falling if it is pulled or bumped.

Connect the appropriate cables to the corresponding input ports on the LCD TV. These input ports are typically located on the bottom or side of the TV's rear panel.
Tips
- If you're unsure about mounting the TV yourself, consider hiring a professional for the job.
