Coffee isn't just a morning energizer – research shows that it can also stimulate hair growth, enhance hair shine, and deepen the color of darker hair. But these effects aren't noticeable just by sipping a cup – you need to apply coffee directly to your hair.
Steps
Hair Care with Brewed Coffee

Brew a strong cup of coffee. A typical cup of coffee uses 2 tablespoons (7-9g or 2 scoops) of coffee and 180 ml of water. To make a stronger brew, add another 1-2 tablespoons. For brewing a full pot equivalent to 8 cups, use 1.5 liters of water and 18-20 tablespoons (80g) of coffee.
- Remember, the darker the coffee, the deeper the color. Washing your hair with coffee works best for those with brown or gray hair, as it can add depth and darken the hair.
- If you have blonde, bright red, or light-colored dyed hair, you might want to try another method for hair care, as your hair could turn a dull gray or look dirty.
- You can use espresso coffee grounds if you don't have ground coffee.

Did you know? The coffee hair care method stimulates blood flow to the scalp, rejuvenates hair follicles, and accelerates hair growth!

Shampoo your hair as usual, and rinse thoroughly. Make sure to rinse out all the shampoo. Gently squeeze your hair to remove excess water – there's no need to dry it completely, but it shouldn't be dripping wet either.

Stand in the shower and pour cold coffee over your hair, starting from the roots. For a more careful approach, you may want to use a bucket or basin to catch the coffee water as it runs off, so you can pour it back onto your hair.
- If you want to distribute the coffee more evenly, pour the cooled coffee into a spray bottle and spray it onto your hair.
- If you're worried about coffee staining the bathtub or bathroom floor, lean over the basin when pouring to direct the coffee into it.
- Rinse the coffee out of the tub immediately after applying to avoid stains.

Cover your hair with a shower cap and wait for about 20-60 minutes. If you don't have a shower cap, you can wrap your hair in an old towel if you're not too attached to it. Remember, coffee can stain fabrics and other porous materials, so avoid letting it drip on carpets or furniture, and don't wear nice or light-colored clothing.
- If coffee drips onto your face or neck, wash it off with water and soap to avoid staining your skin.
- The longer you leave the coffee in your hair, the darker your hair will become.

Rinse your hair with warm water and allow it to air dry naturally. Repeatedly nourish your hair with coffee to make it shinier, darker, grow faster, and reduce hair loss.
- If you'd like to enhance the color from the coffee, rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar, as it helps retain the coffee's color.
Hair care using coffee grounds

Prepare a pot of coffee with 8 tablespoons (or 30-35g) of coffee. You only need about a handful of coffee grounds, so the above amount is sufficient. Feel free to add or reduce coffee to your preference.
- The coffee grounds will darken your hair, so if you have light-colored hair, you may want to use another method to nourish for glossy hair.

Place a coffee filter or thin cloth over the drainage hole. Avoid letting the coffee grounds fall down the drain – coffee can clog the pipes. A coffee filter will trap the grounds, preventing them from going down the drain, and you can dispose of it in the trash once you're done nourishing your hair.

Rub a handful of cooled coffee grounds into wet hair. Massage the coffee grounds into your hair, rubbing your scalp and working them through the strands. The coarse texture of the coffee grounds will exfoliate the scalp, stimulating hair follicles to promote hair growth.
- If you want to nourish your hair regularly, you can dry the coffee grounds and mix them into your shampoo, conditioner, or hair oil.

Remove coffee grounds from your hair. Coffee grounds will help remove any residue stuck in your hair, leaving it soft, shiny, and healthy. Dispose of the remaining grounds in the trash or use them for composting.
- Regular use of coffee grounds can even promote hair growth. The caffeine in coffee blocks hormones that cause hair loss and extends the life of your hair. Try using coffee grounds as a hair treatment 1-2 times a week.
- Use an old towel to dry your hair, and keep in mind that water dripping from wet hair can ruin your clothes. It's best to wrap the towel around your shoulders or wear old clothes until your hair dries.
Warning
- Coffee can stain towels and furniture, so be cautious when setting up your hair treatment area.
- Ensure the coffee has cooled completely. Your scalp is more sensitive to heat than your hands, so if it's hot to the touch on your hand, it will feel even hotter on your scalp.
- Avoid using coffee on light or bleached hair, as it may stain porous or light-colored hair.
