Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of "opening" a torrent file. Torrent files are essentially links to online information that allow you to download specific files or groups of files. To open a torrent file, you will need a specialized program like BitTorrent. You can open torrent files on Windows, Mac, and Android devices, but it's not available on iPhone or iPad.
Steps
On Desktop

Open the qBitTorrent website. Go to https://www.qbittorrent.org/download.php using your web browser on your computer.

Choose the download link. Depending on your operating system, click one of the following links:
- For Windows — Click the 64-bit installer link located to the right of the "Mirror link" header in the Windows section.
- For Mac — Click the DMG link located to the right of the "Mirror link" header in the Mac section.

Double-click the downloaded setup file. The file will open.

Install qBitTorrent. Depending on your operating system, follow these steps:
- On Windows — Click Yes when prompted, then follow the installation instructions that appear on the screen.
- On Mac — Drag the qBitTorrent application icon into the "Applications" folder shortcut, then follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to confirm the download process for qBitTorrent to begin installing.

Double-click the torrent file. Since the qBitTorrent installation process links all torrent files to qBitTorrent, the torrent file will open in qBitTorrent.
- On Mac, you may need to click the torrent file once, go to File, select Open With, and choose qBitTorrent from the dropdown menu.

Expert Warning: Only download torrent files from websites or individuals you trust completely. Additionally, if you're downloading a torrent, make sure you have antivirus and anti-malware programs such as Malwarebytes, AVG, or Avast installed. This way, once the file is downloaded, these programs will scan it before it is actually stored on your file system.

Click on I Agree when the option appears. The file's "Save" window will pop up.
- You won’t need to click I agree when opening the file with qBitTorrent later.

Select your save location. Click the folder icon next to the "Save at" text box, choose a folder, then click Select Folder. This is where the torrent file will be saved.
- On Mac, you need to click Choose instead of Select Folder.

Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.

Review the torrent file. While the torrent is downloading, you can track its file by navigating to the folder where the torrent is being downloaded and opening that folder.
- The folder for the torrent will share the same name as the torrent file.
On Android

You need to ensure that you have downloaded the torrent file. The torrent file will be located in the Download folder on your Android device.
Download uTorrent.
Google Play Store
Close Google Play Store. Press the Home button on your Android device to return to the main screen.

Open the file manager app on Android. This app may vary depending on the Android model, but it is usually named "Files" or "File Manager". You will find it in the App Drawer.

Choose a storage location. Tap on the storage option (e.g., Internal - internal memory) to start downloading the torrent.
- In some file management apps (like Samsung Files), this step may not appear.

Click on the Download folder located in the "D" section of the directory list.

Click on the torrent file located in the Download folder. The torrent file will open in uTorrent.

Click ALLOW two times when this option pops up. This step is needed to grant uTorrent access and location information. The torrent-related file will begin downloading.

Wait for the download process to complete. Once the file has finished downloading, you can proceed.

Open the torrent file's directory. Go back to the Download folder in your Android file manager app, then tap on the torrent file (or folder) to open it.
- Depending on the type of the torrent file, the downloaded file might not be compatible with your Android device.
Tip
- You should keep your torrent seeding (uploading) at least while it's downloading by leaving it open on your client and not shutting down your computer. This is considered good etiquette when using torrents.
Warning
- Be cautious not to violate copyright or other intellectual property laws when downloading torrents that you don't own.
