Today, Mytour will guide you through the steps of opening the Terminal tool (command-line environment) on your Mac using methods like Launchpad, Spotlight, or Finder (applications available on macOS). The Terminal allows you to access the Unix operating system on macOS, giving you the ability to manage files, adjust settings, and launch programs through command-line input.
Steps
Using Launchpad

Open Launchpad. The app has a silver rocket icon and can be found in the Dock. The Dock is a row of icons usually located at the bottom of the screen, although it can be moved to the left or right side of the screen.
- If you're using a laptop, you can also open Launchpad by performing a four-finger pinch gesture on the trackpad.
- You can also access the app by pressing the F4 key.

Click on the folder labeled Other (Others). The folder will feature a square icon with several smaller icons inside it.

Click on Terminal. The Terminal app will launch a command prompt.
- If you cannot find the Terminal app in the Other folder, it might have been moved to another location on the Launchpad. If it’s still missing, try another method to find it.
Use Spotlight

Click on the Spotlight icon. This app looks like a magnifying glass, located at the top right corner of the screen.
- You can also activate Spotlight by pressing the ⌘ Command+Space key combination.

Type terminal into the search box. The Terminal app will appear in the search results.

Double-click on the Terminal. The Terminal app will launch and show a command prompt immediately.
Use Finder

Open the Finder app. The icon is located at the bottom of the screen, and it resembles two faces with two shades on the top.

Click on the Applications option located on the left side of the Finder panel.
- If you cannot find "Applications" in the left panel, click the Go task at the top of the screen and select Applications.

Click on the Utilities option. You might need to scroll down a little to find it.

Double-click on the Terminal. You may need to scroll a little to locate it. The Terminal app will open, and you'll see the command prompt immediately.
Tips
- To close the Terminal, press ⌘ Command+Q.
- To change the color scheme of your Terminal window, click on Terminal in the top menu and select Preferences. Choose one of the themes on the left side of the screen or customize the colors in the main panel.
