Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning, and research materials that are either in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license allowing others to freely use and repurpose them. OER encompasses full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, videos, tests, software, and any other tools, materials, or techniques used to support access to knowledge. When licensing educational resources openly to become OER, it is highly recommended to use Creative Commons tools.
Steps
Use the Creative Commons License Tool and Attribute the Author

- License Features - This is where you will select the license for your materials.
- Selected License - The chosen license.
- Help others attribute you - Here, as the author, you will input information about your work so that users can properly credit you as you prefer.
- Have a webpage? - This section automatically generates licensing information based on your selections above. All you need to do is copy the information and paste it where you need to apply the license and/or attribution, such as:
- Text documents you want to license under Creative Commons to become OER.
- Presentation materials you want to license under Creative Commons to become OER.
- Websites, such as your blog, where you want to apply a Creative Commons license to become OER.
Proceed to License Your Resource as OER Using Creative Commons

- Verify if the CC BY-SA license is correctly selected. If not, return to the 'License Features' section to make the appropriate adjustments.
The tool will automatically generate content in the 'Have a web page?' section.

Adjust the Vietnamese text in your document to ensure proper display of the pasted content.
‘This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License’.
Tips
- For automatic links, when licensing with Creative Commons and attributing the author for creative works, it is advisable to use the Creative Commons open licensing tool or similar, even if you are familiar with the characteristics of Creative Commons licenses.
- You can translate the original English Creative Commons license content into Vietnamese so that readers who are not fluent in English can better understand what they are permitted or not permitted to do with your work.
Warnings
- For your document to be truly open-licensed and qualify as Open Educational Resources (OER), it is more appropriate and beneficial to publish it online in editable formats like HTML or XML, rather than non-editable formats such as .PDF files.
