Mytour will guide you on how to play an audio CD on both Windows and Mac computers.
Steps
Playing a CD on Windows
Press the Eject button on the disk drive. This button is usually located at the lower-right side of the front panel of the drive.
Place the CD in the tray with the label facing up.
Close the tray by pushing it in or pressing Eject again. The motor will automatically close the drive, except for drives with a spring-loaded tray on notebooks.
Click on Select to choose what happens with audio CDs (Choose an action for the CD). If this message does not appear on the screen, you may have already selected the action for when a CD is inserted.
- If you wish to change the program that runs automatically when the CD is inserted, you can do so through the Control Panel.
Click on Play audio CD (Play CD audio). You will see one or more installed programs capable of playing CDs listed below. Windows Media Player is the default program installed on all Windows operating systems.
Open Windows Media Player if AutoPlay does not appear. If nothing happens after inserting the CD, manually open Windows Media Player.
- Press ⊞ Win and type "windows media player."
- Click on Windows Media Player from the list.
Double-click the audio CD in the left menu. The disk will start playing, and you will see the tracks listed within the window.
Click and drag the Volume slider in Windows Media Player to adjust the CD audio volume. Note that this slider is not related to the system volume. Make sure the system volume is set to a sufficient level before adjusting the volume in Windows Media Player.
Adjusting AutoPlay Settings in Windows
Open the Control Panel. This process differs between Windows 8 and 10 compared to Windows 7 and earlier:
- Windows 8 and 10 – Right-click the Start button and select "Control Panel."
- Windows 7 and earlier – Click the Start button and select "Control Panel" from the Start menu.
Click the AutoPlay option. If you do not see this option, click on the "View by" menu in the top-right corner and select either "Large icons" or "Small icons."
Scroll down to the CDs.
Click on the dropdown menu Audio CD.
Select the action you prefer when the CD is inserted.
Click on the dropdown menu Enhanced audio CD (Enhanced audio CD).
Click on the action you want for the enhanced audio CD.
Click the Save button. The actions you select will be set as the default settings whenever a CD is inserted into the computer.
Play a CD on a Mac
Insert the CD into the Mac's disk drive. Make sure the label side is facing up.
- Most Mac laptops have a slot for CDs, while desktop Macs feature a tray that slides out.
Click the iTunes button in the Dock if the program doesn't open automatically.
Click the disk icon located along the top button bar of iTunes.
Click the Play button to start playing the CD.
Click and drag the Volume slider to adjust the sound level. This slider is located at the top of the window, next to the playback control buttons.
- The volume slider on iTunes is completely independent of the system volume slider. If the system volume is set to minimum, adjusting the volume on iTunes will have no effect.
Eject the disc once you're done listening. There are several ways to remove the disc from your Mac computer:
- Press the Eject button on the keyboard.
- Press ⌘ Command+E.
- Click on the desktop background, select File → Eject.
- Drag the CD icon on the desktop to the Trash. This option only works if the disk icon is displayed on the desktop.
Update iTunes if the CD is automatically ejected. Some users with older versions of iTunes report that audio CDs are automatically ejected while other discs work fine. This issue is usually resolved by updating to the latest version of iTunes.
Adjust CD settings on Mac
Click on the Apple menu.
Click on System Preferences (System Settings). If you can't see all the options in System Preferences, click on the Show All button at the top of the window.
Click on CDs & DVDs in the second section of System Preferences.
Click on the When you insert a music CD menu option.
Click on the action you desire. If you'd like the CD to automatically play in iTunes, select "Open iTunes".
Launch iTunes. If you have set up iTunes to open automatically when a CD is inserted, you can now configure additional actions for iTunes to perform.
Click on the iTunes menu.
Click on Preferences (Settings).
Click on the When you insert a CD menu.
Click on the action you want to run when the CD is inserted. You can choose to play music, import songs into your library, or display the CD content.
Click OK. Once the CD is inserted into the computer, it will automatically play on iTunes.
