Today, Mytour will guide you on how to play Pokémon games using an emulator on your Windows computer. You can download your favorite Pokémon versions for Nintendo DS, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance to your device.
Steps
Download ROM
Visit the Love Roms website. Access https://www.loveroms.com/ using your computer browser.
Click on the search bar labeled "Enter Keyword or ROM Title" located in the middle of the page.
Type pokemon into the search bar. This is how you can find Pokémon games on the website.
Click on Search. All Pokémon-related games on the site will be displayed.
Find your Pokémon game. Scroll through the results to locate the Pokémon game you wish to download. Ensure the game displays the platform "Nintendo DS", "Gameboy Color", or "Gameboy Advance" on the right side of the page.
- Pay attention to the game's rating. Typically, a Pokémon game will have multiple versions, with some being better than others.
Select the game. Click on the Pokémon game you want to download. The game's page will open.
Uncheck the box labeled "Install LoveROMS Search Extension" located below the green DOWNLOAD NOW button on the game's page.
Click on DOWNLOAD NOW (Download Now). This button is located in the middle of the game's page.
Click on START DOWNLOAD (Start Download) when the option appears. The ROM will begin downloading. Once completed, you can proceed to install the emulator based on the selected ROM platform.
Using the Nintendo DS Emulator
Determine your computer's bit version. To download the Nintendo DS emulator, you need to know whether your computer uses a 32-bit or 64-bit processor.
Open the DeSmuME website. Visit https://desmume.org/download/ using your web browser. DeSmuME is a Nintendo DS emulator designed for both Windows and Mac computers.
Select the download link. Under the heading "DeSmuME v0.9.11 Binaries for Windows," click on Windows 32-bit (x86) (for 32-bit systems) or Windows 64-bit (x86-64) (for 64-bit systems). DeSmuME will start downloading after a brief ad.
- You may need to click the direct link if DeSmuME does not begin downloading automatically.
Open the DeSmuME ZIP folder. Double-click the downloaded ZIP folder to open it.
Click on the Extract (Extract) tab at the top of the window.
Click on Extract all (Extract All). This option is located on the right side of the Extract toolbar at the top of the window. A new window will appear.
Click the Extract option at the bottom of the new window. The contents of the ZIP folder will be extracted and opened in a new regular folder.
Open DeSmuME. Double-click the DeSmuME application file to launch it. The DeSmuME emulator will open.
- You may need to click Yes when prompted to confirm opening DeSmuME.
Click on the File tab in the top-left corner of the DeSmuME window. A dropdown menu will appear.
Click on Open ROM… (Open ROM). This option is at the top of the dropdown menu.
Select the downloaded ROM. Click on the ROM you downloaded. You may need to navigate to the Downloads folder on the left side of the window to locate the ROM.
Click on Open (Open). The ROM will load in the Nintendo DS emulator, and the game will start.
- You can view the emulator's control key list by clicking on the Config (Configuration) tab and selecting Control Config (Control Configuration) from the dropdown menu.
Using the Gameboy Color Emulator
Open the BGB website. Visit https://www.loveroms.com/emudownload/gameboy-color/bgb/63984 using your web browser.
Uncheck the box labeled "Install Yahoo Search Extension" located below the green DOWNLOAD NOW button in the middle of the page.
Click on the DOWNLOAD NOW option in the middle of the page.
Click on START DOWNLOAD when the option appears. The BGB emulator ZIP folder will begin downloading to your computer.
Open the BGB ZIP folder. Double-click the ZIP folder to open it.
Click on the Extract tab at the top of the window.
Click on Extract all. This option is located on the right side of the Extract toolbar at the top of the window. A new window will open.
Click the Extract button at the bottom of the new window. The contents of the ZIP folder will be extracted and opened in a new regular folder.
Double-click the bgb application. The app is gray with a black directional pad icon. The BGB emulator window will open.
Right-click on the emulator window. A dropdown menu will appear.
- If your mouse doesn't have a right-click button, click on the right side or use two fingers to click.
- If your computer uses a trackpad instead of a mouse, press two fingers on the trackpad or tap the bottom-right corner of the trackpad.
Click on the Load ROM… (Load ROM) option near the top of the dropdown menu.
Select the downloaded ROM. Click on the ROM you downloaded. You may need to navigate to the Downloads folder on the left side of the window to locate the ROM.
Click Open to load the ROM into the Gameboy Color emulator. The game will then start.
Utilize a Gameboy Advance emulator
Visit the VisualBoyAdvance website. Access https://www.loveroms.com/emudownload/gameboy-advance/visualboyadvance172/64038 using your web browser.
Uncheck the box labeled "Install Yahoo Search Extension" located below the green DOWNLOAD NOW button in the middle of the page.
Click on the DOWNLOAD NOW button. This option is centered on the page.
Click on the START DOWNLOAD button when prompted. The VisualBoyAdvance ZIP folder will begin downloading to your computer.
Open the VisualBoyAdvance ZIP folder. Double-click the ZIP folder to access its contents.
Click on the Extract tab at the top of the window.
Select Extract all. This option is located on the right side of the Extract toolbar at the top. A new window will appear.
Click Extract at the bottom of the new window. The contents of the ZIP folder will be unpacked and displayed in a new regular folder.
Double-click VisualBoyAdvance. This purple icon is located within the new window. The VisualBoyAdvance program will launch.
Click on the File tab in the top-left corner of the VisualBoyAdvance window. A dropdown menu will appear.
Select the Open… option near the top of the dropdown menu.
Choose the downloaded ROM. Click on the ROM file you recently downloaded. You may need to open the Downloads folder on the left side of the window to locate the ROM.
Click Open. The ROM will load in the Game Boy Advance emulator, and the game will start.
Tips
- Remember to save your progress! This can usually be done within the game or through the File menu.
Warning
- Downloading ROMs for games you do not own is illegal. Nintendo's terms of use also prohibit downloading ROMs, even for games you own.
