PPSSPP is one of the most versatile PSP emulator apps, available for use on Android devices. Keep in mind that for optimal gameplay performance, you’ll need to use a newer Android device. Older devices with slower speeds may struggle to run the games. If you've customized the firmware on your PSP, you can transfer your PSP discs to your Android device.
Steps
Install PPSSPP

Open Google Play Store. PPSSPP is a PSP emulator that you can download for free from the Google Play Store. No additional files or apps are required, unless the game itself specifies otherwise.

Search for "ppsspp" in the Store. You will see several options listed in the results.

Select the "PPSSPP" option. You will see the "PPSSPP Gold" app, which functions similarly to the standard app. First, try downloading the free version to check if it is compatible with your device, then you can buy the Gold version if you wish to support the developer.

Tap "Install" to download and install the emulator. This is the only app you need to install in order to play games. No BIOS file is required, unlike with other emulator software.
Download the game files

Download the ISO or CSO game files from online sources. If you don't want to dump the game, you will need to customize the firmware on your PSP, and you can download ISO files from torrent sites. Downloading games you do not own is illegal, so you must accept all risks when downloading files. Just search for the game on your favorite torrent site and proceed with the download. Games may be in CSO format, which is a compressed version of the ISO file. Both CSO and ISO files work with PPSSPP.
- It may be easier to download the game files to your computer and then transfer them to your Android device.
- Refer to the article How to Download Torrents for detailed instructions on downloading torrent files to your computer.
- After downloading the game you want to play for PPSSPP, follow the next steps. If you want to legally dump the game, continue reading the section below.

Install custom firmware on your PSP if you want to dump game files. This allows you to create ISO files from any UMD or game you have downloaded. However, this is a complex process. We will briefly explain it below, but you can refer to articles on How to Hack a PlayStation Portable for more detailed instructions.
- Update your PSP to version 6.60.
- Download PRO-C Fix3 to your computer. This is the custom firmware installer for PSP.
- Copy the downloaded folder to the GAME folder on your PSP Memory Stick.
- Run "Pro Update" from the Game menu on your PSP to install the custom firmware.
- Run "CIPL_Flasher" to permanently set the custom firmware. This means you won't need to reinstall the firmware every time you restart your PSP.

Insert the UMD you want to dump into the PSP. You can convert the UMD disc to an ISO file, then transfer it to your Android device to play it on PPSSPP.

Press the Select button on the main PSP menu. This opens the special PRO VSH custom firmware menu.

Select "USB DEVICE" and switch to "UMD Disc." This allows the disc to appear on your computer instead of the Memory Stick when you connect the PSP to your computer.

Connect the PSP to your computer. Use the USB cable that came with the device to establish the connection.

Open the "Settings" menu on your PSP and select "Initialize USB Connection". Typically, the correct folder will open automatically. If it doesn’t, go to Computer/This PC and choose the drive with the scrambled letters and numbers.

Click and drag the ISO file from your PSP to your computer. The file transfer may take a few minutes. You have now successfully copied the UMD from your PSP to your computer in ISO format.
Play Games

Connect your Android device to your computer. You need to transfer the PSP ISO file to the Android device's storage in order to load it into the PPSSPP app.

Open Android on your computer. You should see your device listed in the Computer/This PC window.

Create a folder named "PSP", and then create a subfolder called "GAME". This mimics the folder structure of a PSP.

Copy the ISO file into the GAME folder on your Android device. The transfer process may take a little time.

Disconnect your Android device from the computer. After copying the ISO file to the PSP/GAME/ folder, you can safely disconnect the Android device from the computer.

Launch PPSSPP. You will see the main menu of PPSSPP.

Tap on "PSP" > "GAME" to view all the ISO files. All the game files copied from your computer will be listed in this section.

Click on the game to open it. The software will load the game, and if your device meets the necessary specifications, the game will start. You can play the game using the on-screen buttons.
- If the game fails to load, there are two possibilities: either PPSSPP doesn’t support the game, or your Android device’s configuration isn’t powerful enough to run it.
