Clash of Clans is a captivating strategy game that draws in countless players. In the game, you will construct and defend your base, train your army, and raid the bases of other players. As you gather more resources like gold and Elixir (purple resources), your base will grow larger and more fortified! Below is a simple, easy-to-follow guide to help you improve your Clash of Clans gameplay.
Steps
Getting Started

Build and manage your base. Your top priority is to create a sturdy base so no one can steal your valuable resources. Aim to place your Town Hall at the center of your base to make it harder for enemies to destroy and claim your loot.

Visit the Shop to select defensive structures for your base under the "Defense" section. Initially, the best defensive options are Walls and Mortars. Building these will make it harder for others to attack and steal your gold and Elixir. Since Walls can be easily upgraded, ensure you do this quickly. Aim to upgrade your Walls to level 3 as soon as possible.

Since your resources are limited early on, focus on building Walls around your most important structures. It’s ideal to protect your Town Hall, Gold Storage, and Elixir Storage. You don’t need to worry about Builder’s Huts or other troop-producing buildings yet. Avoid building Walls around everything. Clearly, two solid layers of Walls are better than one weak layer.

Use gold, Elixir, and Gems wisely. Don’t waste these resources, especially Gems, as they are scarce. Avoid spending Gems recklessly! Save them to build additional Builder’s Huts!
- Using Gems to build Builder's Huts is a smart move. You might be tempted to spend all your Gems, but resist the urge as you’ll need them later.
- The most effective way to use Gems is to invest in Builder’s Huts, as this allows you to upgrade multiple towers and defensive structures simultaneously.
- Early on, avoid building extra Gold or Elixir Storages as they aren’t immediately necessary.

Decide whether you want to spend real money to progress faster in the game. You can use real money to purchase more Gems.
- Aside from spending real money, there are other ways to earn Gems. If you prefer not to spend real money, that’s fine. You can earn Gems by clearing trees and obstacles around your base.
Protecting Your Base

Always remember that a strong defense is the best offense! Build a solid base to protect yourself from attackers. You’ll feel satisfied knowing your enemies tried to raid you but failed.

Ensure your base is tightly clustered rather than spread out.

Place key structures in the most defensible areas. Position your Storages and Town Hall at the center of your base, behind strong defensive systems and Walls.

Build Builder’s Huts in the corners. This way, if enemies attack the center of your base, they won’t have time to reach your Huts.

Keep upgrading your defenses. Once you gather more resources, make your base even stronger by upgrading Walls, defensive systems, and towers.

Use as many traps as possible. Traps can deal significant damage to attackers, making them worth upgrading. Each activation can easily take out weaker troops and deal heavy damage to stronger ones. Place traps in unexpected locations to catch enemies off guard.

Protect all your defensive structures. As you progress, you can build advanced defenses like Archer Towers and Air Defenses. Remember, Mortars deal massive damage but fire slowly. Place them in the center of your base, as they have blind spots. If you neglect your air defenses, you’ll struggle against Healers.
Attacking Other Players

Attack whenever possible. Attacking is always beneficial. Not only do you face no penalties, but you can also earn valuable resources and Trophies. You might skip Trophies to focus on raiding poorly defended bases for resources. While each raid may not yield much, it’s easier and requires less investment in your army. You’ll soon realize raiding is more efficient than farming. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!

Check how much gold the enemy base has before attacking. You can see the amount of gold in each base you plan to raid. If there’s no gold, skip it. Bases with huge gold reserves often have strong defenses, making them harder to attack. However, if you feel confident, go for it! A little risk can be rewarding!

Target resource storages. Focus your troops on attacking Gold and Elixir Storages first.
- After a successful raid, you’ll gain a significant amount of gold and Elixir to use.
- If the battle isn’t going your way, don’t hesitate to retreat. You can always train more troops for future attacks. Knowing when to stop an attack is crucial.
- When you attack a Gold Storage, the newly acquired gold is added to your existing stash. Even if your troops are defeated during the raid, the gold you’ve already collected remains yours.

You’ll earn more resources or rewards if you completely destroy the enemy base or their Town Hall.

After each attack, make sure to train more troops to replace those lost in battle. To train troops, click on the Barracks and select the training menu. Early on, the best troops to train are Barbarians (costing 25 Elixir) and Giants (costing 500 Elixir).

Build a Laboratory. This structure allows you to upgrade your troops, making them stronger in attack and more durable in defense. You can also unlock advanced troops like Archers, Wizards, and Goblins. Over time, you can construct a Spell Factory, which produces spells to enhance your attacks.

Once you start earning Trophies, consider joining a League. Leagues provide additional gold and Elixir after each victory. Higher-level Leagues offer greater rewards, and top-tier Leagues even grant Dark Elixir, a rare resource in the game.
Join a Clan and Collaborate with Members

You’ll need to rebuild your Clan Castle to join a Clan. After a few days of gameplay, make sure to upgrade your Clan Castle.

Once your Clan Castle is rebuilt, search for a Clan to join. Take time to evaluate which Clan suits you best. You’ll likely want to join a Clan with active members who play around the same time as you.

Clan members can share troops and won’t attack each other.

Joining a Clan is a great way to discover new attack or defense strategies.

If you’re in a Clan, you can chat and get to know other players. You can also participate in friendly battles or practice defenses with players at your level.

A Clan can participate in Clan Wars. Here, Clan members can directly battle other Clans and earn massive amounts of resources.

If you feel your current Clan isn’t a good fit, consider switching to another. If you find yourself in a Clan with members much older, younger, or speaking a language you don’t understand, it’s time to move on.

After joining a Clan, you may have the opportunity to become a Clan Elder. This role allows you to remove other members from the Clan.

High-level members can donate and share high-level troops.

If you’re not ready to join a Clan but still want to interact with other players, you can use the Global Chat. Global Chat is an open chatroom for players who are online.

Note that you may be banned from Global Chat if you use inappropriate language.
