Steps
Cooking Pasta and Cheese on the Stove
Prepare the ingredients. To cook pasta and cheese on the stove, you will need small dry pasta, salt, vegetable oil, butter, flour, milk, and shredded cheddar cheese.
Boil 4-6 liters of water in a large pot. Ensure the water level is about 7-10 cm below the pot's rim. Turn the heat to high and add a pinch of salt to the water. It’s important to use enough water for the pasta to expand and cook evenly. If you don’t add enough water, the pasta will clump together and cook unevenly.
Add the pasta once the water is boiling. Pour in the pasta and stir well to prevent sticking. Boil the pasta for about 8 minutes or until "al dente"—meaning tender but still firm and not mushy. Before turning off the heat, carefully use a fork to test a piece of pasta to see if it’s ready. Stir the pasta every 1-2 minutes to reach the desired flavor and softness. However, be sure to read the instructions on the pasta box, as different types of pasta may require different cooking times.
Place a strainer in the sink and pour the pasta along with the hot water into it. Once drained, return the pasta to the pot and place it on a trivet or the stovetop (make sure the stove is turned off!) to let it cool.
Heat the oil and butter in a separate pan over medium heat. Once the butter has fully melted into the oil, add the flour and stir continuously using a whisk (you can also use a fork or a long-handled slotted spoon). Keep stirring gently for about 3 minutes, or until the mixture becomes smooth and turns a light brown. This is the first step in making the sauce that will accompany the pasta once it's cooked. You can also begin preparing the sauce while waiting for the pasta to cook to save time.
Gradually add the milk to the mixture while continuing to stir. You can also use a fork or a long-handled slotted spoon. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes, stirring constantly, until small bubbles start to form on the surface without bursting, and the mixture begins to thicken. Be sure to stir the ingredients thoroughly into the mixture.
Add the shredded cheese, half a cup at a time. Continue stirring the mixture until the cheese has fully melted.
Season to taste. Carefully taste the sauce by taking a small spoonful and letting it cool before testing. Then, add salt, pepper, nutmeg, or any other spices you prefer until the sauce tastes just right. Keep stirring the sauce to ensure the spices are evenly mixed in.
Pour the sauce over the pasta. Gently toss to ensure the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
Now that everything is prepared, you can enjoy your dish. However, if you like, you can complement it with a side salad, a piece of chicken, or other high-protein foods of your choice. You can also add different meats such as bacon to enhance the flavor of your pasta dish. Keep in mind that pasta and cheese are high in fat, so you don't need to add too many extras!
Baked Mac and Cheese

Preheat the oven to 180ºC.

Bring 4-6 cups of water to a boil in a pot. Add a pinch of salt to the water before bringing it to a boil. Be sure to add plenty of water to ensure the pasta cooks evenly and fully.

Cook the pasta until al dente. Pasta is considered al dente when it's cooked but still firm to the bite. Be sure to follow the instructions on the pasta box for the correct cooking time. Typically, it takes around 8 minutes to cook pasta, but cooking times may vary, so it's essential to check the instructions.

Combine butter, salt, and mustard powder in a separate pot. Start by melting the butter, then stir in the flour and mustard powder for about 5 minutes. You can begin making the sauce while waiting for the pasta to cook to save time. Be sure to stir constantly to prevent any lumps from forming.

Add onions, bay leaves, spices, and milk to the mixture. Let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes. Once done, remove the bay leaves, as their flavor will have infused into the mixture.

Crack one egg into the mixture.

Stir in 3/4 of the cheese into the mixture. The remaining cheese will be used later. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.

Pour the sauce over the pasta. Now that the sauce is ready, carefully toss the pasta with the sauce to combine.

Place the pasta into a baking dish. Transfer the pasta and cheese mixture into a 2-liter baking dish. You can sprinkle the remaining cheese on top to enhance the flavor after baking.

Prepare the topping. Melt butter in a pan to make the topping, then add breadcrumbs. Stir the mixture until the butter and breadcrumbs are well combined.

Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the pasta. Now, simply cover the pasta with the breadcrumb mixture. The pasta is now ready to bake!

Bake the pasta for about 30 minutes. Ensure the oven is preheated to the correct temperature. Once the pasta is in the oven, just wait for it to finish baking. After it's done, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Enjoy your meal. This dish can be enjoyed immediately after baking, or paired with a salad or other high-protein foods of your choice. If you have leftovers, simply store them in the fridge. Next time you want to eat, reheat the pasta with a little oil in a pan for a delicious mac and cheese experience!
Alternative Ways to Prepare Mac and Cheese

Prepare pre-packaged mac and cheese. If you can find pre-packaged mac and cheese, simply follow the instructions on the package to make this dish quickly and easily.

Combine mac and cheese with hamburger meat. This is a highly creative and delicious combination.

Make a rich and creamy mac and cheese. For a more indulgent version of mac and cheese, try adding milk and increasing the cheese content for a richer flavor.

Tips
- If you want a more intense flavor, consider adding onion powder.
- If you don't have butter, margarine can be used as a substitute. Although margarine won't make the dish as perfect as butter, it is still a viable replacement.
- You can opt for white cheddar cheese.
- This recipe serves 8 or more portions. If there are leftovers, store them carefully in the fridge or halve the ingredients (200g pasta, ½ tablespoon or 1-1/2 tablespoons oil, etc.).
- For a crispy top, you can bake it. Preheat the oven to 180ºC. After following the steps, place the prepared pasta in an oven-safe glass or metal dish (or two smaller dishes if you don't have a large one). Sprinkle cheese or breadcrumbs mixed with butter on top, and bake for 15 minutes or until the top turns a light golden brown and crispy.
- It is best to use cheddar cheese, the kind that is typically orange in color.
- To complete the dish, add vegetables or meats like broccoli, carrots, onions, ham, or chicken.
- You can use butter instead of oil.
Warnings
- If you don't stir the pasta and cheese together thoroughly, the pasta will stick to the bottom of the pan and may burn.
- Avoid letting the food burn.
- Don't cook too much; the ingredients listed are enough to serve 10 people.
