How to Program a Dish Network Remote

Ensure you have the correct remote type. If you own a remote model 40.0, 50.0, 52.0, or 54.0, this method is suitable.

• For remotes in the 20.0, 20.1, 21.0, or 21.1 series, you’ll need to follow the next method.
• You can find the remote’s product number in the user manual.

Open the menu. Press the HOME button twice or the MENU button once.

• This action depends on the specific model of your remote.

Select Settings. This option is located in the middle of the screen. You can navigate using the arrow keys on the remote and press ENTER or OK to confirm.

Choose Remote Control. This option is at the top of the on-screen list.

Select the device. Scroll down to the "DEVICES" section, then choose TV or Auxiliary Device depending on whether you want to program the remote for a TV or another device (e.g., a DVD player).

Choose PAIRING WIZARD near the top of the screen.

Select the device brand. Choose the letter combination representing the manufacturer's name, then scroll through the list to find and select the corresponding brand.

Click Next on the right side of the screen.

Test the remote. This step will vary depending on the device you are pairing with the remote:

• TV — Press the volume up button and listen to see if the volume increases.
• Other devices — Press the power button and observe if the device turns on or off.

Try another code. If the remote doesn’t work after testing, select Try Next Code at the bottom of the screen and test the remote again.

Choose Finished when you find the correct code. Once the right code is identified, select Finished at the bottom of the screen to complete the programming process. The remote will now work with your TV or auxiliary device.

Open the remote model website. Visit https://www.mydish.com/support/products/remotes/how-to/program-to-tvother using a web browser on your computer.

Select the remote type. Click on the 20.0, 20.1, 21.0, 21.1 heading near the top of the page.

Click the three-digit remote control link located in the next section of step two near the middle of the page. A pop-up window will appear.

Click the "Select a Model" dropdown box in the middle of the window. A menu will drop down.

Choose the remote name. Scroll down until you find the specific name and model number of your remote, then click on it.

• Again, you can find this number in the remote’s user manual.

Select the device. Click the "Select a Product Type" dropdown box, then click on the name of the device you want to program the remote to control (e.g., DVD).

Select the manufacturer. Click the "Select a Manufacturer" dropdown box, then click on the name of the device manufacturer.

Review the available codes. Depending on the information you entered, you’ll see at least one three-digit code displayed here.

• Some devices have 10 or more codes. In this case, you can try the code with the highest "Success Count" first (usually at the top of the list).

Turn on the device you’re programming the remote for. For example, if you’re programming the remote for a DVD player, ensure the DVD player is powered on.

Point the remote at the device and hold the appropriate button. The button to press depends on the device you’re programming the remote for:

• TV — Hold the TV button at the top of the remote.
• Other devices — Hold the AUX button (for all devices) or the DVD button (for DVD players and VCRs).

Wait for the four lights on the remote to blink. These lights are located at the top of the remote. Once they blink, you can release the button and proceed to enter the code.

Enter the code. Use the remote’s number pad to input the three-digit code displayed on your device. You may need to add extra digits depending on the device:

• When programming the remote for a VCR or DVD player, add a 1 before the three-digit code.
• If programming for a device other than a TV, add a 2 before the three-digit code.
• If you held the AUX button while pairing the remote with a TV, add a 0 before the three-digit code.

Press the # button to confirm the code.

Watch for three flashing lights. These lights are located near the TV, AUX, or DVD button, depending on your remote. If these lights blink, it means the remote has been successfully programmed for your chosen device.

• If the lights don’t blink, you’ll need to try a different three-digit code.
• If no codes are left to try, proceed to scan for codes.

Understand how code scanning works. This process allows you to manually cycle through all available codes for the selected device. While this method ensures you’ll eventually find the correct code, it involves scanning through hundreds of codes and takes more time.
