How to Recite a Spell

Do you believe in magic? We all wish for the ability to influence the world around us through supernatural forces. Whether it's for love, success, spiritual growth, or revenge, these rituals often incorporate symbols, special objects, incantations, the alignment of celestial bodies, focus, reverence, and faith in the ceremonial process to bring your wishes to life.

Purify Yourself Before Reciting the Spell. Before performing a spell, you must enter a suitable physical and mental state, clearing away doubts, evil spirits, and impurities in your mind that could distract you or render the spell ineffective. Ideally, you should treat the purification process as a ritual that helps relax the body and calm the mind.

• Take a Bath. Immerse yourself in a bath, cleanse your skin thoroughly, and release the tension from your muscles.
• Wear Appropriate Clothing. Wear special clothing for magic if you have it. If not, wear comfortable, light, and clean clothing. You are asking for blessings from divine forces, so dress respectfully. Some practitioners claim to perform rituals in the nude if no one is around.
• Meditate until your mind is clear. Breathe deeply to improve focus and eliminate distractions that might take your attention away.
• Apply an Appropriate Oil. Many essential oils can be used for different purposes. If you prefer, choose one or several oils that seem fitting and dab a small amount on your finger, rubbing it on your forehead. You can also apply the oil to your hands, hair, face, and chest.

Purify the space around you. If you are preparing to perform a ritual in a room, ensure that you won't be disturbed and clean the area where you will cast your spells. Visualize the negative and distracting energies dissipating as you cleanse the space.

• Once you've cleaned, spiritually purify yourself by lighting incense, sprinkling some salt water or sacred water, or playing a few notes on an instrument.

Create a circle or altar. You need a sacred space to conduct the ritual. This could be a circle that protects you from negative energies and spirits or an altar for offerings to deities or higher powers, or even a combination of both. You will carry out the ritual inside the circle or in front of the altar.

• Draw a circle large enough for you to sit in the middle or a five-pointed star inside the circle. You can draw a real circle, or use your finger or a wand to trace it in the air. Imagine protective energy emanating from your arm as you draw, surrounding the circle in a bubble of light. You can mark significant points on the circle or the star with candles, stones, or other meaningful items.
• Create a raised platform to place statues of deities or other symbols representing divinity. It doesn't have to be elaborate: a stack of books will suffice if approached reverently. Consider adding candles, a crystal ball, incense burners, or other sacred items, such as a family heirloom or a book of spells.

Invoke the deities. Recite prayers to request blessings from the higher powers for your desires. You can ask for assistance from a specific deity or higher power, or you may read aloud a prayer you've written to plead for help. The invocation may include gestures, music, dancing, lighting candles, or arranging sacred objects.

Focus energy on your wish. Think about the purpose of the spell and visualize a stream of light flowing from you into it. Imagine your desire coming to life. The more vivid these energies appear in your mind, the more real they will become.

Chant the spell. For each spell, write a short sentence that expresses your wish and ask to be blessed. Your spells don't need to rhyme, but alliteration, repeated sounds, rhythm, and poetic structure will help you focus and remember them. Chant the spell clearly and confidently while visualizing.

Conclude your prayer. A spell requires an object to be 'released' as a symbol of sending your prayer into the universe. You can tear or burn a piece of paper with your wish written on it (or a symbol representing that wish); throw a stone or symbolic object; inhale the scent of a candle; pour or drink sacred water.

Give thanks and clean up. Express gratitude to the deity you prayed to. Send excess energy back to the earth by visualizing it flowing into the ground. Open the circle if necessary and dismantle the altar if it's no longer needed. Collect your tools and leave. Your spell ritual has concluded. Consider doing something mundane afterward, like finding something to eat, to center your mind.

Look to the sky. Many witches believe that the moon phases, the time of day, and astrological alignments are crucial to the effectiveness of any spell. For example, a spell for new beginnings should be performed during the new moon phase, as your wish may manifest by the full moon. You can research mystical phenomena to determine the optimal times to chant your spells.

Incorporate colors. Colors hold different meanings in various magical systems. Once you've researched their significance, choose one or two colors that align with your intent, and use candles or a crystal ball in those colors during your spellwork.

Use herbs, oils, stones, and natural objects. For practitioners of mystical sciences, every item holds a specific magical significance. You can visit metaphysical stores to select items that will enhance the energy of your spell.

Form a connection with higher powers. Many mystical experts call upon various deities and religious symbols to perform miracles. Find a spiritual symbolism system that resonates with you and invoke these higher powers during your spellwork. However, be cautious—some spirits have their own will and could disrupt your intentions if not properly managed.

Believe. Ultimately, chanting a spell is about directing your mental energy toward a specific goal. Whether or not the spell leads to supernatural events, speaking your desire aloud and following the ritual can help you focus, instill confidence, and drive you to work more diligently to bring your wish to life. The more you believe in the power of the spell, the more likely it is to have a positive effect.

Find a seashell in shallow waters. Collect the shell and let it dry. This simple charm transforms a general wish into reality. Use the seashell to send your wish into the universe by calling upon the powers of water and the moon.

Select or create a symbol to represent your wish and place it on the seashell. You can either draw your own symbol or search for various symbols connected to the area of your desire (love, family, health, success, etc.). Use chalk, charcoal, or any material that can wash away in the water to draw on the seashell.

Place the seashell on the beach or lakeshore. Find a spot where the waves can cover the seashell when the tide comes in. The symbol on the seashell should be facing upwards, toward the moon.

• Take note of the moon's cycle when doing this. Choose the waxing crescent moon if you are wishing for something, or the waning crescent moon if you wish to rid yourself of something.

Draw a triangle in the sand. Position the seashell in the middle of the triangle.

• You can also write meaningful words in the sand within the triangle, or directly on the seashell.

Chant the incantation while facing the moon. Focus on your wish and attempt to recite the chant with reverence and faith.
