In today's digital era, we all juggle numerous passwords, some of which are critical, such as your Gmail email password. If you've forgotten your Gmail password, Google offers several recovery options to regain access to your account. If you've linked a phone number or backup email to your account, Google can swiftly reset your password. If no recovery options are available, Google may attempt to verify your identity and restore your account access.
Steps
Using the Account Recovery Page

Visit the Google Account Recovery page. If you can't recall your password and have a linked phone number or backup email, Google can send you a link to reset your password. If neither is available, proceed to the next method.
- Go to google.com/accounts/recovery/ to start the process.
- Alternatively, open the Gmail login page and click the "Need help?" link below the login box.

Select "I don't know my password." Enter the Google email account you wish to recover. If you can't recall the account name, choose "I don't know my username." Click the "Continue" button.

Click the "I don't know" button or enter the last password you remember. Providing the last password you recall can aid the recovery process, though it's not mandatory to regain account access.

Choose a recovery method. You can request recovery information to be sent to your backup email or mobile number. Ensure these options are pre-configured in your account for such situations.
- If opting for phone recovery, you can choose between an automated call or SMS.
- If no recovery links are set up, you'll be redirected to an identity verification page, answering questions about your account.

Enter the required verification details. If you select phone verification, you'll be prompted to enter the received code. If a recovery email is sent to your alternate account, click the link in the email.

Create a new password. After entering the verification code or clicking the link, you'll be prompted to set a new Google password. Enter it twice for confirmation and click "Reset Password" to proceed.
- Refer to this guide for tips on creating a strong yet memorable password.
Complete the Password Recovery Form

Begin answering the recovery questionnaire. This section will automatically appear if no recovery information (backup email or phone number) is linked to your account when attempting to reset your password using the methods mentioned earlier.
- The account recovery form is not instantly effective, as it will be reviewed by Google staff. You can try multiple times if your initial attempt is unsuccessful.

Enter an active email address you can access. This is where the response to your recovery form will be sent, so ensure it's an email you can check. If you don't have another email address, you can create a new one for free in just a few minutes.

Select the last time you were able to log into your Google account. An exact date isn't necessary, but a close estimate increases your chances of account recovery.

Choose the approximate time you created your Google account. Again, precision isn't required.

Answer the security question. If you have a security question linked to your account, you'll be prompted to provide the correct answer.

Enter the email addresses you frequently communicate with. You can list up to five addresses. You may also include labels you've created in Gmail and any recovery email addresses you recall.

Select other Google products your account uses. These include Android, Calendar, Gmail, and Hangouts. Provide approximate dates when you started using these services.

Submit the form. Clicking "Submit" sends your questionnaire to Google for review. You'll receive the review outcome at the email address you provided.
- Your IP address will be logged automatically upon submission to assist recovery and prevent fraud.
- If your account cannot be recovered, you may resubmit the form with more detailed answers.
- There are no alternative methods to contact Google for password recovery beyond the options mentioned. Unfortunately, Google does not offer customer support for password loss.
Use a Password Recovery Program

Visit the NirSoft website. Type nirsoft.com into your browser's address bar.

Download the WebBrowserPassView program. This tool scans your web browser for saved login credentials, potentially helping you recover your password.
- Some security software may flag WebBrowserPassView as malicious. Since it retrieves saved passwords from your system, antivirus programs might mistakenly report it as a threat. Be cautious of false positives.

Launch the program. WebBrowserPassView doesn't require installation. Once opened, it scans all installed browsers and displays a list of usernames and passwords for websites you've visited.

Locate the Gmail entry. This is typically found under Google-related entries.

Record the username and password. If it's your most recent password, it may allow you to log in. If it's an older password, it can still assist in the account recovery process.
