If your laptop has recently been infected by a virus and you feel that the system is still affected, or if you simply want everything to run smoothly again, consider reformatting your laptop. Reformatting a laptop involves wiping the entire hard drive, and it is the most effective way to "clean up" your computer. Nowadays, reformatting a laptop is quite simple. Manufacturers often provide users with a copy of the operating system or create a recovery partition on the hard drive. However, before proceeding, it is important to back up all your data to an external hard drive or CD/DVD, otherwise, you will lose all your data after the format.

Backup your hard drive. The reformatting process will erase all your data, so be sure to back up your hard drive to an external drive or CD/DVD if you want to keep your files.

Determine the recovery method provided by the manufacturer. If you received an installation CD with your computer, use it. If not, your computer may have a recovery partition set up, which means you'll need to apply a different method.

Insert the operating system disc into the CD/DVD drive. Normally, the disc will automatically run and display a menu or options page. Select the task to install a fresh copy of the operating system.
- If the CD does not automatically launch, double-click "My Computer," then right-click the drive containing the operating system disc. Click on "Auto-Run."

Wait for the CD to automatically start. If you leave your computer for a moment, the process will pause until it requires input from you. Be patient, follow the prompts, and avoid speeding up the process by intervening. The installation will take a few minutes.
- If you are reformatting the hard drive on the laptop, you will need to accept the default settings or prompts that the installation disc requests.

Wait for the installation process to complete. Once the operating system installation is finished, a brand new screen will appear.
Reformatting the laptop using the recovery partition

Restart the computer. While the computer is rebooting, repeatedly press the F10 key until the system starts up. This action will take you to the partition that provides options for repair or recovery (reformat or reload).

Select the task to reinstall the operating system. The advantage of this system is that you don’t need to do anything manually. The recovery partition will automatically execute the formatting program, reinstall the operating system, set up drivers, and reinstall all the original software that came with the laptop.

Wait for the formatting process to finish. This process typically takes around 30 minutes.
Warning
- When reformatting your laptop, be aware that your hard drive will be wiped clean, and a new operating system will be installed. All the files you’ve created will be lost, so make sure to back up your data elsewhere before proceeding. Additionally, once the formatting process has started and reached a certain stage, you will not be able to reverse it. Even if you change your mind, it won’t be possible to recover your operating system or undo the damage.
