Nothing is worse than waking up to a huge pimple on your face. Whether you wash your face thoroughly, apply a thick layer of acne cream, or try to hide it with concealer, the ultimate goal remains the same—to get rid of the pimple! There’s a method you might not have heard of. Next time an unsightly pimple appears, apply a bit of pure aloe vera gel and watch it shrink away.
Steps
Wash Your Face

Use an acne-fighting cleanser. It’s crucial to wash your face before applying aloe vera. No matter your skin type, cleansing removes makeup, dirt, and dead skin cells, helping to prevent or reduce breakouts. If you already have a suitable cleanser, keep using it. If not, visit your local pharmacy and look for a cleanser designed for acne-prone skin.
Wash your face with warm water. Use your fingertips to massage the cleanser onto your skin in circular motions. Hot water can irritate and dry out your skin, so opt for comfortably warm water. After massaging your entire face, especially areas prone to acne, rinse thoroughly.

Let your face air dry. Towels often harbor bacteria, which you don’t want on your freshly cleaned face. Allow the water to drip off your face into the sink, then let your skin dry naturally. This may take longer, but your sensitive, acne-prone skin will thank you.
- If you’re short on time and air drying isn’t an option, gently pat your face dry with a clean towel. Rubbing can irritate your skin, so patting is the better choice.
Apply Aloe Vera Gel

Apply the gel directly to acne spots. It’s crucial to use pure aloe vera gel, so look for products labeled as pure. Use clean hands to dab the aloe vera directly onto the pimples. If you have a larger breakout, you can spread the gel over the affected area. Avoid touching your face afterward.
- Aloe vera gel helps treat acne and breakouts but doesn’t prevent them. Use it for new pimples, but prioritize regular cleansing to stop them from forming in the first place!
- Since aloe vera soothes pain, reduces redness, and combats inflammation, it’s particularly effective for cystic acne or any pimples that are swollen and red.
- If you’re prone to acne scars, aloe vera is also a great option. It speeds up wound healing and prevents bacteria, reducing the risk of scarring.

Leave the aloe vera gel on your skin. This is perfect to do before bed, as the gel can absorb overnight. However, since aloe vera is clear, you can also apply it during the day. Leave the gel on for at least five minutes or until it dries completely before washing your face. Avoid applying makeup or moisturizer over the gel.
- Aloe vera has antibacterial and antifungal properties, so it can protect your skin while you sleep.

Rinse off the aloe vera gel. As before, wash your face with warm water and let it air dry. The aloe vera gel will reduce inflammation and redness, making the pimple less noticeable. If your pimple has burst or bled, the gel will also help regenerate the skin and heal the wound.
- Apply aloe vera gel regularly to the pimple if desired. Direct application after washing your face or showering is most effective.
Tips
- Remember, aloe vera gel is ideal for reducing swelling, redness, and the risk of acne scars. For large, persistent pimples, consult a dermatologist for stronger treatments or prescription medications.
- Aloe vera works best when combined with other acne treatments. For optimal results, pair it with regular cleansing and specialized acne creams.
