Applying acrylic powder to your nails is a quick and easy process, which is why many people choose this service at nail salons. Similarly, removing acrylic nails is also fast and simple, and you can do it yourself at home. You can remove acrylic nails using acetone and aluminum foil or by soaking your nails in acetone. Regardless of the method you choose, you’ll be able to maintain strong and beautiful nails.
Steps
Using Aluminum Foil

File the surface of your nails with a nail file. Removing the glossy top coat from acrylic nails is a crucial step in the removal process. File each nail carefully and evenly, as this will make the removal process more effective.

Moisten cotton balls with pure acetone. You can cut the cotton balls into smaller pieces that match the size of your nails or use whole cotton balls to soak in 100% pure acetone. Each cotton ball will be wrapped around a single nail.
- Avoid soaking the cotton ball in acetone too much; just enough to moisten the nail.
Wrap aluminum foil around your nails to secure the cotton ball. Once the cotton balls are soaked in acetone, place one cotton ball on each nail. Then, wrap a small piece of aluminum foil around each nail to keep the cotton ball in place.
- Make sure to wrap the foil around part of your finger as well to prevent it from slipping off.

Wait for 10-15 minutes to let the acetone soak into your nails. Allowing the acetone to sit for 10-15 minutes will help it to work effectively. Try not to disturb the foil or cotton balls during this waiting period.
Remove the aluminum foil and cotton balls from your nails. When you take off the foil and cotton, gently press on each nail to wipe off the remaining acrylic powder. After removing all the foil and cotton balls, file any remaining residue off your nails.
Soak your nails in acetone
File the surface of each nail. Use a nail file to smooth out the surface of the acrylic nails. File each nail carefully and evenly to allow the acetone to penetrate the acrylic layer more effectively.

Pour hot water into a large bowl or deep plate. Find a bowl large enough to place a smaller bowl inside and pour hot water into the larger bowl. There is no need to use boiling water to avoid burning your fingers. You can easily heat the water in the microwave in under a minute.

Place 1-2 smaller bowls into the hot water to soak your nails. If you want to soak both hands at the same time, prepare two smaller bowls of appropriate size to fit inside the large bowl. The easiest method is to use one small bowl in the large one and soak each hand one at a time.
Dip a paper towel into acetone and place it in the small bowl. Fold the paper towel once or twice and carefully soak it with 100% pure acetone. You don't need to soak the towel completely, just enough to dampen your nails.
Soak your nails in the bowl for about 10-15 minutes. Immerse your nails in acetone for 10-15 minutes to ensure the acetone soaks into the acrylic layer. If you're soaking one hand at a time, place one hand in the acetone for 10-15 minutes, then repeat for the other hand.
Wipe off the acrylic powder from your nails using a paper towel. After about 10-15 minutes, remove your hands from the bowl and wipe off the acrylic powder with a paper towel. If any powder remains, you can use a nail file to clean it off.
