Safely remove the top or bottom cover of your PS5
If you're looking to get inside your PlayStation 5, whether to clean out accumulated dust or inspect the internal components, removing the cover is necessary. Follow these steps to safely take off the cover for your PlayStation 5 Slim, CFI-2000, or CFI-1000 models.
How to Remove the PlayStation 5 Covers
Before starting, ensure your PlayStation 5 is turned off and all cables are disconnected. Place the console so that the disk drive and power button are facing away from you. Gently lift the cover off the console to remove it. To reattach, simply align the four clips and snap them into place.

CFI-2000 Model Group & Slim Versions
Completely power off your PS5 and disconnect all cables. This includes the AC power cord and any HDMI cables connected to your console.
- Note: Be cautious when disassembling your PlayStation 5. Keep small parts out of reach of children. Ensure the console is powered off and fully cooled down to avoid burns. Be careful not to pinch your fingers in the gaps while handling parts.
- The front of the console, where the disk slot and power button are located, should face away from you.
Remove the feet. These attachments hold your PS5 in place when it's laid horizontally.
Lift the cover off the console. Use both thumbs if possible, as the cover should detach from four clips.
- Once removed, you can clean your PS5 or apply thermal paste if needed.
Reattach the cover. Align the four clips on the cover with the four holes on the console. Gently press until you hear a click, confirming it's securely in place.
- Ensure the cover is properly installed. Incorrect placement could lead to overheating issues with your console.
Reattach the feet. Carefully press them into their designated spots.
- Once the feet are reattached, you can reconnect the AC power cord and other cables, and resume using your PlayStation 5.
CFI-1000 Model Group
Power off your PS5 and disconnect all cables. This includes the AC power cord and any HDMI cables.
- Note: Keep small parts out of children's reach while disassembling your PlayStation 5. Allow the console to cool down fully to avoid burns. Be mindful not to pinch your fingers in the gaps while handling parts.
Place your console on a flat surface. Cover the surface with a soft cloth to protect it from damage.
Remove the base of the console. This is the stand that supports your console.
Remove the top cover. For this PlayStation 5 model, both the top and bottom covers can be removed. To remove the top cover, follow these steps:
- Place the console with the PS logo facing up and the power button facing away from you.
- Carefully grip the bottom-left corner of the cover.
- Lift the cover upwards and towards the right to detach it.
- To reattach the top cover, slide it on from right to left until you hear a click.
Remove the bottom cover. For this PlayStation 5 model, you can also remove the bottom cover. To remove the bottom cover, follow these steps:
- Place the console with the PS logo facing down and the power button facing towards you.
- Carefully grip the top-left corner of the cover.
- Lift the cover upwards and towards the right to detach it.
- To reattach the bottom cover, slide it on from right to left until you hear a click.
Reattach the base. Gently press it back into place.
- Once it's securely attached, reconnect the AC power cord and cables, and you can start using your PlayStation 5 again.
