The armpit is a sensitive area, so it’s important to choose a hair removal method that feels comfortable for you. Shaving is the most common choice as it’s quick, usually taking just one or two minutes. Alternatively, you can try waxing or plucking for longer-lasting results, or opt for hair removal creams to avoid pain. For permanent hair removal, visit a beauty clinic for electrolysis treatments.
Steps
Shaving the Hair

Wet your armpit with warm water. Shaving will be easier when your skin is soft and warm. You can shave during your shower or wet your armpit with warm water before you start shaving.
- If you have ingrown hairs, remember to exfoliate before you begin.
- If you have very sensitive skin, it’s best to shave at night so your skin can "rest" overnight.

Wait for one to two hours before using deodorant products. Shaving may cause skin irritation, so allow some time for your skin to recover before applying skin care products. Applying deodorant immediately after shaving may lead to stinging or rashes on your skin.
Use hair removal cream

Choose a cream designed specifically for sensitive skin. There are many types of hair removal creams, with some being gentle enough for delicate areas like the face and underarms, while others are stronger for thicker leg hair. Opt for one meant for sensitive skin; if it's not effective, you can try a stronger formula later.
- Using a cream that is too harsh for your skin can cause rashes.
- If you’re unsure, choose one formulated for the face.

Clean your underarms. Wash off all deodorants and sweat to ensure your skin is completely clean before applying hair removal cream. Pat your underarms dry with a towel.

Raise your arms above your head. Lift your arms to check if the skin in your underarm area is taut. Keep your arms in a comfortable position that you can maintain for a few minutes, as you'll need to keep them straight throughout the entire process of applying the cream.

Apply the cream to areas with hair. Try to avoid applying it on hairless skin. Use just enough cream and apply it only where there is hair.

Wait according to the instructions. Keep your hands still so the cream can start working. Most brands recommend waiting three to ten minutes for the chemicals to act on the hair. Be sure not to leave the cream on longer than the recommended time.
- If this is your first time using the hair removal cream, rinse your armpit after one minute to check for any allergic reaction. Pay attention to any redness, itching, or rashes on your skin. Reapply the cream if no reaction occurs.
- The cream may cause some stinging, but it shouldn't last long or get too hot. If you feel pain, rinse the cream off immediately.

Wash your armpit and repeat the process on the other side. Apply the cream to the hair in the other armpit and wait for it to work. Once done, wash thoroughly.

Wait a few hours before applying deodorant. This gives your skin time to recover and reduces the risk of irritation caused by the deodorant reacting with your more sensitive underarm skin.
Hair Removal (Waxing)

Your underarm hair should be at least 1 cm long. This length is ideal for hair removal. If your hair is shorter, the waxing strip will have trouble sticking to it, while longer hair may become tangled, making removal more difficult. If necessary, wait a few days for your hair to grow or trim it to the desired length.

Prepare your waxing kit. Waxing works well on underarm hair. Most kits include a jar of wax that needs to be heated in a microwave or wax heater. Each kit also provides applicators and strips to remove the hardened wax from your skin.
- Heat the wax according to the instructions provided.
- After heating, test the wax on the back of your hand to ensure it's not too hot.

Exfoliate and dry your underarms. Use an exfoliating scrub or loofah to remove dead skin and dirt, then dry your underarms thoroughly. This step will make hair removal easier and reduce the risk of infection.

Apply baby powder to your underarms. Baby powder helps keep your underarms dry and prevents the wax from sticking too strongly to your skin while you're removing it. Using a fan or opening a window can also help keep the area dry.

Lift your arm overhead. Raise your arm as high as possible to stretch the skin of your underarm. This will make it easier to remove the hair and reduce discomfort.

Apply the wax and use the cloth strips. Dip the spatula into the wax and spread a thin layer along the direction of hair growth on your underarm. Place a cloth strip on top of the wax and gently press it onto your skin.

Rip the cloth strip against the direction of hair growth. Do this quickly, almost like you're tearing off a bandage. If you pull slowly, the wax won't remove all the hair. The slower you go, the more painful it will be.
- If you find it hard to remove the cloth strip, your skin may not be taut enough. Try bending your arm and using your fingers to pull the skin tight while you use your other hand to remove the strip.
- You may also sweat and your underarm may become wet. Turn on a fan to keep your body cool and dry.

Repeat until all hair is removed. You may need to wax each underarm two to three times, depending on how much hair you have. Finish one underarm before moving on to the other. After waxing, you can tweeze any leftover hairs with a pair of tweezers.

Use almond oil or other lubricants to soothe your underarm skin. These products will calm the skin and help remove any leftover wax residue.

Wait a few hours before using deodorants. If you apply deodorant immediately after waxing, your skin may become irritated. Wait a few hours before using any skin care products.
Use an epilator

Your underarm hair should be only a few millimeters long. This length is the most convenient for using an epilator effectively. If your hair is longer, it will likely become tangled and harder to manage with the device. You can shave your underarms one or two days before using the epilator to achieve the desired hair length.

Apply baby powder to your underarms. An epilator is a small device with rotating heads that pull hair out from the root. Like waxing, it will keep your underarms hair-free for weeks, but this method can be a bit painful. Make sure your underarms are completely dry with baby powder to prevent your skin from getting caught in the device.

Lift your arm overhead. Raise your arm as high as possible to make your underarm skin tight. If your skin isn't taut enough, the epilator could pinch your skin.

Start the device on the lowest setting. Using the epilator on the lowest setting will allow you to get used to the sensation of hair being pulled out from your skin.

Gently move the device over your underarm to remove a layer of hair. Try to avoid letting the device make direct contact with your skin. Throughout the hair removal process, your skin will feel similar to the sensation of waxing. Eventually, you’ll become accustomed to the feeling of hair being pulled out, preparing you for the next step.

Increase the setting and glide the device over your skin. Now, the device will remove all the hair that wasn’t pulled out during the first pass. Always keep your skin taut and finish the hair removal process with the device set to a higher setting.

Repeat the process on the other underarm. Start with the lowest setting and gradually increase it. Continue until your other underarm is completely hair-free.

Apply aloe vera or witch hazel to soothe your skin. Your underarms will likely be red and itchy, so use aloe vera immediately after finishing to help heal your skin.

Wait a few hours before applying deodorant. Using deodorant right after the procedure can cause stinging or rashes, so wait at least a few hours before applying any products.
