After dyeing your eyebrows, if you find the color too dark, you might not know what to do. Don't worry, the dye will naturally fade over the first week due to the oils on your skin and your usual face washing routine. However, if you're still not satisfied with the result after a week, you can actively remove the dye. Try washing your eyebrows with a deep-cleansing shampoo or a mixture of baking soda and shampoo. You can also apply toner (also known as rose water or balancing water) or lemon juice to lighten the color.
Steps
Lightening the Eyebrow Color

Massage the eyebrows with deep-cleansing shampoo. Deep-cleansing shampoo is designed to remove buildup from hair, so it can also help wash away the dye from your eyebrows. However, be careful not to get the shampoo in your eyes. Use a brow brush or a new brush to apply the shampoo and let it soak into your eyebrows. After 60 seconds, wipe it off and wash your face as usual to remove any remaining residue.

Apply a mixture of baking soda and shampoo in a 1:1 ratio. Mix one part baking soda with one part regular shampoo in a small bowl. Stir until the mixture becomes thick. Use a makeup foundation brush to apply this mixture to your eyebrows. After a few minutes, carefully wash off the mixture to avoid contact with your eyes. You can repeat this process if necessary.

Apply lemon juice to your eyebrows. In the morning, squeeze some lemon juice onto a cotton pad and gently rub it on your eyebrows. Be careful not to get the lemon juice in your eyes. Leave the lemon juice on your eyebrows all day, and wash it off in the evening. Spend some time outside to let the sunlight accelerate the lightening effect of the lemon juice.

Wipe your eyebrows with facial toner. Facial toners (like witch hazel-based rose water) are available at supermarkets or beauty stores. Dab a little toner onto a cotton pad and gently wipe it over your eyebrows to lighten the color. You can do this whenever needed, but keep in mind that toners may contain alcohol, which could dry out the skin under your eyebrows.

Try using a brow gel to lighten the color of your eyebrows. Choose a brow gel that is at least one shade lighter than your dyed eyebrow color. Use a brow brush to lightly apply the gel to your eyebrows. Make sure to cover the entire eyebrow for an even color. Allow the gel to dry, and repeat the process if you want the color to be even lighter.

Use facial bleach as a last resort. It's best to leave this procedure to a professional. Visit a salon or beauty care center and ask the stylist to apply facial bleach to your eyebrows to lighten the dye. This bleach is a high-concentration hydrogen peroxide solution. The stylist will apply a few drops of this solution to a cotton pad and gently wipe it over your eyebrows to remove the dye.
- Be cautious not to get the bleach in your eyes.
Removing Dye from Skin

Use makeup remover. Sometimes, eyebrows may appear too dark because the dye has absorbed into the skin rather than staying only on the hair. In this case, opt for an oil-based or gel makeup remover to lift the dye off the skin. Dip a cotton pad into the remover and gently wipe the skin beneath your eyebrows. You’ll notice the dye transferring from the skin to the cotton pad.
- Be careful not to get the makeup remover in your eyes.

Apply dye remover to your hands. Some eyebrow dye kits come with a dye remover for situations where the dye stains your hands. Make sure to read the instructions carefully, as this remover is usually not intended for use on your face or eyebrows. Dab a small amount of the solution onto a cotton pad and apply it to the stained area. After the color fades, wash the area with soap and warm water to clean off any remaining dye remover.

Brush the stained area with toothpaste. If the eyebrow dye stains your skin, you can use toothpaste to clean it. Squeeze a small amount of non-gel toothpaste onto a new toothbrush. Gently brush the stained area to lift the dye. Repeat if necessary. Afterward, rinse off the toothpaste and clean the area again with warm soapy water.

Try using a facial or body exfoliating scrub. Products like soap or exfoliating creams for the face or body can help remove dye from your skin. First, wet the stained area, then apply a small amount of soap or exfoliating cream. Scrub gently and rinse, repeating until the color fades. If applying to the face, make sure to use a product suited for the delicate skin on your face, and avoid getting any chemicals in your eyes.

Use nail polish remover if dye stains your hands or arms. If the dye gets on your hands, arms, or other areas of skin, you can use nail polish remover. Soak a cotton ball with nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol and gently wipe the stained skin. You may need to repeat this step multiple times for the dye to completely lift. Afterward, wash off the remover with soap and warm water.

Apply WD-40 multi-purpose cleaner to the stained area (except the face). WD-40 should not be applied to the face but can be used on your hands, arms, or other non-facial skin. Spray a small amount of WD-40 onto a cotton ball and rub it on the stained area. Once the dye has faded, be sure to wash the area thoroughly to remove any leftover WD-40 solution, as it can irritate the skin.
