False eyelashes can significantly enhance your facial appearance by making your lashes appear longer and fuller. While mastering the application of false lashes requires practice, removing the adhesive is much simpler. By using the right products or methods to dissolve the glue, you can easily peel off your lashes. Whether you prefer using eye makeup remover, your favorite oil, or steam, you can clean off the lash glue in just a minute.
Steps
Use Eye Makeup Remover

Select an eye makeup remover that is compatible with your false eyelashes. Oil-based eye makeup removers are most effective at dissolving lash glue. However, if you plan to reuse your false lashes, it's best to opt for an oil-free product. Residual oil on the lashes can make it harder for the glue to adhere during future applications.

Dip the tip of a cotton swab into eye makeup remover. While most eye makeup removers are formulated to be gentle, some may still irritate the eyes. To prevent the remover from getting into your eyes, it's best to use a cotton swab for precise application. Moisten the tip of the swab, but ensure it’s not dripping.
- Some cosmetic brands sell specialized lash glue removers, but regular eye makeup remover can also effectively dissolve the adhesive.
Gently swipe the cotton swab along the edge of the false lashes on your eyelid. Once the swab is saturated, carefully glide it along the line where the false lashes meet your eyelid. The remover will seep in and loosen the glue.

Allow the makeup remover to sit on your eyelid for a few minutes. Sometimes, it takes a moment for the remover to fully dissolve the glue. Let it soak for about 1-3 minutes to reduce the adhesive's stickiness.
Remove the false lashes starting from the outer corner. Once the lashes feel movable, place a finger on your eyelid. Gently pull the eyelid upward and outward to tighten the skin, then use your fingers or tweezers to carefully pull the lashes downward and away from your brow.
Swipe the cotton swab along the lash line again. Even after the false lashes are removed, some glue residue may remain on your eyelid or the lashes. Dip the other end of the swab into the remover and glide it along the eyelid and lash edge to loosen any leftover adhesive.
Remove any remaining glue from the false lashes. After soaking with makeup remover, you can use your fingers to peel off any leftover adhesive on the lashes. If the glue doesn’t come off easily, apply more remover and repeat the process.
Wipe off any residual makeup remover and wash your face. Even after removing the lash glue, some remover might remain on your skin. Use a cotton pad or cleansing cloth to wipe it away, then thoroughly cleanse your face with your regular facial wash.
Using Oil to Remove Glue
Soak a cotton pad with your chosen oil to dissolve the glue. Oils are highly effective at breaking down lash adhesive. You can use coconut oil, almond oil, pure olive oil, or baby oil. Dip the cotton pad into the oil, but avoid letting it drip.
- You may opt for a cotton swab instead of a pad if preferred.
- Oils are generally gentler than makeup removers, making this method ideal for those with sensitive eyes. Additionally, oils provide moisturizing benefits, which can be helpful if the skin around your eyes is dry.
- Oil-based removal may not be suitable for those with oily or acne-prone skin, as it can clog pores and potentially lead to styes.
- Note that oil residue can make it harder for glue to adhere to the lash band during future applications. If you plan to reuse your false lashes, consider an alternative removal method.
Press the oil-soaked cotton pad against the lash line and hold for a few minutes. To allow the oil to penetrate and dissolve the glue, keep the pad pressed firmly against the lash band. Ensure it’s positioned close to the area where the lashes meet your eyelid. Hold for 1-3 minutes or until you feel the adhesive loosening.
Gently peel off the false lashes starting from the outer corner. Once the adhesive feels loose, use your fingers or tweezers to carefully grip the outer edge of the lashes. Slowly and cautiously remove them to avoid pulling out your natural lashes.
Use a fresh cotton pad to wipe away any remaining glue. If adhesive residue is still present on your eyelid or the false lashes, soak a new cotton pad with oil and gently swipe it along the eyelid and/or lash band to eliminate the glue.
Wipe off excess oil and cleanse your face. Some oil may linger around the eye area after removing the glue. Use a cotton pad to gently remove the oil, then wash your face with your regular cleanser to ensure your skin is thoroughly clean.
Using Steam to Remove Adhesive
Pour a few cups of boiling water into a bowl. Add 3-4 cups (750 ml – 1 liter) of boiling water into a heat-resistant bowl. Alternatively, you can use a facial steamer if one is available.
Drape a towel over your head and position your face above the bowl of hot water. The towel will trap the steam, helping to loosen the false lash adhesive. Avoid getting too close to the bowl to prevent burns, keeping it at least 45 cm away from your face.
Steam your face for about 3-5 minutes. It takes a few minutes for the steam to soften the lash glue. Consider setting a timer to avoid overexposing your skin to the steam.
- Steaming your face to remove lash glue also has the added benefit of unclogging your pores.
Gently peel off the false lashes starting from the outer corner. Once the steam has loosened the adhesive, carefully lift the lashes from the outer edge. If any glue remains on your eyelid or lash band, use your fingers to softly wipe it away.
Splash cool water on your face and apply moisturizer. Steaming opens up your pores, so it’s important to close them afterward. Wash your face as usual, then rinse with cool water. Pat your skin dry and apply your regular moisturizer.

Avoid steaming your face more than once a week. If you wear false lashes multiple times a week, don’t steam your face every time you remove them. Over-steaming can lead to redness, sensitivity, and breakouts. Opt for alternative methods to protect your skin.
