How to Resize the Artboard in Adobe Illustrator

This guide will show you how to adjust the size of your artboard (drawing area) in Adobe Illustrator.

Open your file in Illustrator. Double-click to open your Illustrator project. You need to have your project open in Illustrator to modify the artboard size.

Find the artboard you want to resize. In the Artboards panel on the right side of the page, locate the name of your artboard.

• If you don't see this panel, click the Window menu at the top of the window (or screen if you're using a Mac), then click Artboards from the dropdown menu.

Double-click the "Artboard" icon. This box icon with a plus (+) symbol next to the artboard name will open a window.

Adjust the width of the artboard. Modify the value in the "Width" text box to change the width of the artboard.

Adjust the height of the artboard. Increase or decrease the number in the "Height" text box to resize the height.

Click OK. This button is located at the bottom of the window. It saves your changes and adjusts the size of your artboard.

• If you need to reposition your artwork within the artboard, select the artwork, then click and drag the dotted line that appears.

Click on Fit to Artwork Bounds. This button will appear in the dropdown menu. This action will resize your artboard to fit the artwork.

• If you have multiple artboards, each will be resized individually.

• It’s important to distinguish between the terms "artboard" and "workspace." The workspace (sometimes referred to as the "canvas") refers to the entire area, which includes all your artboards.

• Unlike the artboard, the workspace in Illustrator is fixed at a size of 227x227 and cannot be changed.
