There are various reasons you might need to restart your TV's cable box, such as improper program loading, a frozen video, or a blank screen. To reset the cable box, first go to the Settings menu and look for the Restart option. If the screen is frozen or you can't find the Menu option, check the cable box for a Reset button. You can also unplug the cable box for a manual restart if the other methods don't work. If issues persist, contact your cable service provider for assistance.
Steps
Restart from the Cable Box Menu

Open the cable box menu using the remote control. Ensure that both the TV and cable box are powered on to display the image on screen. Look at your cable box remote and locate the Menu button (usually at the top or center of the remote). Press this button, and a menu will appear on your TV screen.
- This button may sometimes have a gear icon or 2-3 horizontal lines. If you’re unsure about the Menu button’s location, refer to the user manual for configuration settings.
- If the cable box didn’t come with a remote, the Menu button is likely located on the front of the device.
- If the TV image freezes, you may not be able to access the menus.

Go to the Settings option in the cable box menu. Use the arrow buttons on the remote to scroll through the options on the screen. Find and select either the Settings or Support option, then press OK or Enter. A new menu will appear on the screen with additional options for changing the cable box settings.
- Some cable boxes include arrow buttons, allowing you to navigate through the menus without a remote.

Locate the Reset or Restart option in the Settings menu. Scroll through the Settings menu options to find the Reset or Restart option. Once you've selected it, press OK or Enter to begin the process. If a confirmation window appears asking if you want to restart, click Yes.
- If you use multiple cable boxes at once, they might not function while the main cable box is restarting.
Warning: A complete reset of the cable box may erase any recorded or saved content. A warning message will appear on the TV screen if data loss is possible.

Wait until the cable box fully restarts to check if the issue has been resolved. It may take a few minutes for the cable box to reboot, so be patient. The TV screen will flash or display a progress bar while the cable box restarts. Once the system finishes rebooting, check if the previous issue has been resolved.
- If the issue persists, try restarting again or contact your cable service provider's customer support.
Use the Manual Reset Button

Locate the Reset button on the front or back of the cable box. Check along the front of the cable box for a small round button labeled Reset. If you can't find the button on the front, move to the back of the device, near the power cord.
- If there’s no Reset button on the cable box, you may be able to reset the device by holding down the power (Power) button. If you only find one button on the box, refer to the user manual for instructions on resetting the device.

Press and hold the button until the lights or display on the cable box turn off. Press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds until the lights or display on the cable box turn black, and the internal cooling fan stops running. Once the lights turn off, you can release the Reset button.

Wait for the cable box to fully reset for 5-10 minutes. As the cable box reboots, the lights on the display will flash or show the word “Boot.” You may also see a progress bar or an icon appear on the TV screen during the reboot process. Allow the box to complete the reset on its own, and avoid pressing any buttons on the remote until the process is finished.
- If the cable box freezes during the reboot or no image appears on the TV after 10-15 minutes, contact your cable service provider for assistance.
Warning: It is possible that other cable boxes in your home may not function while the main cable box is restarting.
Unplug the cable box

Unplug the cable box. Locate the power cable running from the back of the cable box to the power outlet. While the cable box is still on, unplug the cable from the socket to disconnect it from the power source. Afterward, check the front of the box to ensure the display is off.
- Be sure to grip the plug and pull it out instead of tugging on the cable to prevent damaging the cord.
Tip: If the power outlet is difficult to reach, you can unplug the power cord directly from the device.

Wait at least 1 minute before plugging it back in. Ensure that the plug is securely connected to the outlet, as improper connections may cause issues. Avoid turning on the cable box immediately after plugging it back in; allow a few minutes for it to settle.
- Avoid plugging the cable box into an outlet controlled by a light switch, as this could lead to connection problems or power loss.

Press the Power button on the cable box to restart the device. Once the device is reconnected to the power source, press the main Power button on the front of the box or the remote. The lights on the cable box will illuminate or show the word “Boot” as the system begins to reboot. Wait for 5-10 minutes for the system to restart, then check if the issue persists.
- If the cable box is still not working, contact your cable service provider.
