A scanner is an essential device in today’s ever-evolving digital age. Whether for work or leisure, using a scanner is incredibly important in modern work settings, and the good news is that it’s quite simple to use. If you don’t own a scanner, you can easily find one at local libraries, copy shops, or shipping centers like Kinko’s. Essentially, scanning involves converting paper documents into digital images. It works similarly to a copier by quickly capturing the document’s image. However, instead of printing a copy, a scanner transfers the document to a computer for various uses.
Steps
Preparing to Scan
Set up the scanner.
Compatible software is available.

Prepare the document for scanning. You will need the document you wish to scan, as you must place it on the scanner (similar to a copier). Ensure that your document is scannable. If the document is not flat, exceeds the scanner’s surface area, or requires specific security features like special reflective materials on checks, it cannot be scanned.
Scan Document

Turn on the scanner. Once you’ve connected the scanner to your computer, you can start scanning your document. Lift the scanner lid, much like opening a copier, to reveal the scanning glass.
Place the document on the scanner bed or glass. Position the side of the document you want to scan face down on the glass. This will allow the scanner's camera to capture the image. Place the document correctly, ensuring it aligns with the markers on the glass for standard paper sizes, as well as other common paper sizes along the edges. Any part of the document not on the glass will not be scanned. After placing the document, close the scanner lid.

Launch the scanning software. After placing the document to be scanned, open the scanning software on your computer. There are several ways to access the software. Try to set it up so that its icon is always easily accessible.
Adjust the settings.

Click 'Scan'. Once you've adjusted the settings, you’ll need to command the software or scanner to start the scanning process. This could be the ‘Scan’ button in the software or the ‘Scan’ button on the scanner. Refer to the user manual if you're unsure.
Make additional adjustments if necessary.

Edit Document

Edit the image. Open the image using basic image software on your computer or more advanced programs like Photoshop. From there, you can adjust the contrast, levels, and other properties of the image.
