This article provides a guide on how to choose the right email service and set up a personal account. After setting up your email account, you can send emails to other people's addresses.
Steps
Create an Account

Select an email service provider. Nowadays, there are many email service providers available, most of which offer free registration and usage. However, the three most popular ones are:
- Gmail — Google’s email service. After registering for Gmail, you will also get a Google account, which is useful for YouTube and other major social networks.
- Outlook — Microsoft’s email service. Some Microsoft services require an Outlook account, such as Microsoft Word (or Office 365), Windows 10, Skype, and Xbox LIVE.
- Yahoo — Yahoo is a basic email provider with unique features, such as displaying news in the inbox and offering 1 terabyte of online storage.
- All three of the above email service providers offer free mobile apps for smartphones. These apps allow you to send and receive emails on your smartphone via your preferred email service provider.

Visit the email service provider's website. The website addresses for each provider are as follows:
- Gmail — https://www.gmail.com/
- Outlook — https://www.outlook.com/
- Yahoo — https://www.yahoo.com/

Click on the "Sign Up" button. This may also appear as "Create an Account" or similar, typically located at the top right of the email provider's page.
- If you're on Yahoo's homepage, you'll need to click on Sign in first, and then click Sign up at the bottom of the "Sign In" page.

Fill in your details. While you may be asked for additional information, email providers typically ask for the following:
- Your full name
- Your phone number
- The email address you'd like to create
- A password
- Your date of birth

Complete the registration process. In some cases, you might need to verify your identity via phone (as with Yahoo), but other providers may only ask you to prove you're not a robot by ticking a box. Once you've completed registration, you can start sending emails.
Send an Email with Gmail

Open Gmail. Access https://www.gmail.com/ through your web browser. This will open your Gmail inbox if you're already logged into your Gmail account.
- If you're not logged in, enter your email address and password when prompted to continue.

Enter a subject. Click on the "Subject" field, then type any text you'd like to use as the subject of your email.

Tip
- If the email is important, save a draft while composing. Gmail usually saves drafts automatically for you, but other email providers may not have this feature.
- Create two email addresses - one for work and one for personal use - so you can stay focused when checking your emails.
Warning
- Never say anything in an email that you wouldn't want to be made public. Remember that emails reflect both you and your personal brand.
