This article will guide you on how to send files through Facebook Messenger or the Facebook.com website.
Steps
Using Facebook Messenger on a phone or tablet
Launch the Facebook Messenger app. The app features a blue chat bubble icon with a white lightning bolt inside, located on the home screen (for iPhone/iPad) or in the app tray (for Android).
Select a contact. Tap on the name of the person you want to send the file to, which will open a conversation with them.
- You can find existing contacts by pressing the Home button or search for a new contact by selecting People.
Send images. To send photos from your device's camera, tap the square icon with a mountain and moon inside, then select the image you wish to send.
Send other files. Tap the plus (+) icon below the conversation to view all options, then choose the type of file you want to send. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the file transfer.
Using Messenger.com on a computer
Visit www.messenger.com in your browser. This method requires you to use a computer.
Log in to Messenger. If you are not already logged in, enter your username and password to access your account.
Choose a contact. Click on the name of the person you want to send the file to, located on the left side of the screen.
Click the file icon. This icon resembles a stack of papers and is found below the conversation window.
Select the file you wish to send. In the pop-up window, navigate to the file you want to send and click once to select it.
- To select multiple files at once, hold down the Ctrl key (on Windows) or ⌘ Command key (on macOS) while clicking each file.
Click the Open button. This action will send the file to the recipient.
Using Facebook.com on a computer
Visit www.facebook.com in your browser.
Log in to Facebook. Enter your account name in the blank field at the top right corner of the screen and click Log In.
Select a contact in the chat. You can click on their name in the right-hand panel of the Facebook page.
Click the paperclip icon. This icon is located second from the right, just below the chat box.
Select a file. Navigate to the folder containing the file, left-click once to choose it, and then click Open.
- To select multiple files simultaneously, hold down the Ctrl key (on Windows) or ⌘ Command key (on macOS) while selecting each file.
Press the ↵ Enter key (on Windows) or ⏎ Return key to send the file. After a moment, the file will be sent. You can double-click the file name to view its contents.
