This article provides a detailed guide on sharing your computer screen with participants during a voice or video call on Skype. The process is compatible with Windows and Mac computers but is not available on mobile devices.
Steps
Launch Skype. Click on the program with the white "S" logo on a blue background to open Skype. If your login details are saved, this will take you to the Skype homepage.
- If you are not logged in, enter your registered email (or phone number) and password to proceed.
- For Windows users, ensure you are using the downloaded version of Skype rather than the pre-installed version.
Start a voice or video call. Select a contact from the left side of the Skype window, then click the camera or phone icon in the top-right corner. This will initiate a call between you and the selected contact.
- You can share your screen during both voice and video calls.
- If you are receiving a call, click the Answer button to join.
Click on +. This option is located below the call window.
Click on Share screens…. This option appears in the displayed menu. A window with additional choices will pop up on your screen.
Select the screen to share. Click on the screen you wish to share with the call participants. If only one screen is available, it will be the only one displayed here.
- You can also click the Share your screen checkbox at the top of the window and choose Share a window to select a specific window to share.
Click on Start. This option is located at the bottom of the displayed window.
Click on Stop sharing to end screen sharing. This option is displayed by default in the box at the top-right corner of the screen, but you can move this box around. After clicking, your screen will no longer be visible on the call participant's computer or mobile device.
Tips
- You can share your computer screen with mobile devices, but you cannot share your screen from a mobile device.
- Be mindful of your Internet service's bandwidth limitations. Only share your screen when you have a stable Internet connection suitable for video calls.
Warnings
- Internet quality may cause video calls to freeze temporarily.
- If you are using the pre-installed version of Skype on Windows, the Share screens option will not be available.
