Reddit users often wonder how to share their posts across several subreddits at once. Crossposting lets you do this by keeping your original post intact while creating links to other subreddits. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to crosspost effectively.
Steps to Follow
Using the iOS/Android App
Launch the Reddit app and log in if you're not already signed in. The process is simple, as Reddit offers an official app for both iOS (iPhone/iPad) and Android users.
- Note: The mobile website doesn't currently support crossposting.
Locate the post you wish to crosspost. Only original posts can be crossposted, not crossposts themselves. If you want to crosspost a crosspost, you'll need to find the original post instead. If you need to create a post that's ready for crossposting, you can follow these steps.
- Find the post within its original subreddit OR
- Search for relevant terms OR
- Locate it in your Home feed.
- If the post is a crosspost from another subreddit, click the original title link in the crossposted post to view the original post, and then follow the instructions that follow.
Start sharing the post. You need to open the original link.
- On Reddit's mobile app, tap the Share icon on the post. Then, at the bottom of the "Share to..." menu, tap the "Community" option on the left. This will open the Crosspost dialog box for you to set up.
Edit the crosspost details. On the mobile version, search for the community where you'd like to crosspost and update the title and body text.
- Reddit will automatically fill in a basic crosspost form, using the original title in the body and a link to the original post. You can modify this information as needed to suit the destination subreddit.
- To help with this, you may need to select a tag or flair (from the tag/flair box), or include specific keywords in the title (such as r/bugs for Reddit's bug-reporting subreddit), or fulfill other subreddit-specific requirements to complete the crossposting process.
Publish the crosspost on Reddit.
- In the mobile app version, you'll find the Post button in the top-right corner.
- For the mobile crosspost creation page, make sure all sections (including any required tags for some subreddits) are filled in before the Post button becomes active. If any section is left empty, the button will remain inactive.
Using the PC/Mac Website
Go to Reddit and log in if you haven’t done so yet. You can visit their official website at this link. The process is simple and straightforward.
- Note: The mobile website doesn't support crossposting. You can only crosspost using the mobile app.
Find the post you want to crosspost. Only original posts are eligible for crossposting, not crossposts themselves. If you're aiming to crosspost a crosspost, you'll need to find the original post instead. If you need help creating a post for crossposting, follow these steps.
- Posts can be found directly in their original subreddit OR
- Search for them by keywords OR
- Check your Home feed.
- If the post is a crosspost from another subreddit, you can click the original post link from the crossposted post to view it and then proceed with the following steps.
Start sharing the post. Open the original link first.
- Click on the original post's title from the Home feed.
- On the post page, hit the Share button, located right next to the comment or award button below the post.
- Click "Crosspost" from the options list between "Copy link" and "Embed".
- The Share feature on subreddit posts in the Home feed doesn't have the crosspost option.
Edit the crosspost details. On both desktop and mobile, search for the community you'd like to crosspost to and update the title and body text accordingly.
- Reddit will generate a basic crosspost form using the original title in the body and a link to the original post. You can update this information as needed to fit the requirements of the target subreddit.
- To finalize the crosspost, you may need to select a tag or flair from the available options, or include specific terms in the title (such as r/bugs for Reddit's bug-reporting subreddit), or resolve any remaining issues. Once everything is set, you'll be ready to complete the crossposting process.
Publish the crosspost on Reddit. The button to post will appear below the link to the original post, just to the right of the Save Draft button.
Important Notes
- Crossposting helps you keep the original content intact, including formatting, and consolidates all comments in a single place instead of scattering them across multiple threads.
- When users view the details from a crosspost, they must visit the original post through the link in the crossposted subreddit to comment there. This ensures all comments are collected in one location, no matter how many subreddits the post is crossposted to.

Copy-pasting might seem like an alternative, but it's not ideal. It removes the original formatting and could give the impression that you're the original author, which means the original creator wouldn't get proper credit.
