Today, Mytour will show you how to arrange two or more columns of data in Google Sheets based on a specific column.
Steps

Open Google Sheets. Visit https://sheets.google.com using your browser and click on the spreadsheet.
- To create a new sheet, click on Blank at the top-left corner of the page.
- If you're not logged into your Google account, you'll be prompted to sign in with your Google email and password first.

Select the columns you want to sort. Click and drag your mouse from the top cell of the first column to the bottom cell of another column.
- The columns you wish to sort must be adjacent to each other.
- If you're creating a new sheet, you'll need to input data before proceeding.

Click on Data. This tab is located at the top of the spreadsheet.

Click on Sort range. This option is found in the middle of the dropdown menu.

Select the column to sort. Click the dropdown menu to the right of "sort by," then choose the column to use as the basis for sorting.
- For example, if you have a list of names in column "A" and salaries in column "B," select column "A" to sort by names or column "B" to sort by salary.
- If the selected columns have headers in the first row, check the "Data has a header row" option here.

Choose the order. You can select ascending order (alphabetical/numerical) by clicking A → Z, or choose Z → A for descending order.
- To add another sorting method, click the + Add another sort column link. You can remove unnecessary sorting methods by clicking the x on the left side of the method.

Click on Sort. All selected data will be sorted based on the chosen column.
Tips
- Ascending order arranges numbers from smallest to largest (1, 2, 3), while descending order sorts them from largest to smallest (3, 2, 1).
Warnings
- If there are multiple empty columns between the columns you want to sort, the Sort range option will be disabled.
