Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of restarting Firefox on your computer into the built-in "Safe Mode" feature. This setting disables all add-ons when Firefox starts. You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode whether the browser is already open or not, and you can also use a keyboard shortcut or a command-line program to force Firefox to open directly in Safe Mode. Please note: you cannot start Firefox in Safe Mode on smartphones or tablets.
Steps
Launching Firefox in Safe Mode
Open Firefox. Click or double-click on the Firefox application icon, which features a fox in orange wrapping around a green globe.

Review your browser's performance. If the issue with Firefox no longer occurs when opened in Safe Mode, this suggests that the problem is caused by one or more of the add-ons you have installed.
Disable add-ons if necessary. Go to the Add-ons page by clicking the ☰ button, selecting Add-ons, and clicking on the Extensions tab. Then, select Disable or Remove next to any add-on to deactivate or remove it from Firefox.
- You can also reset the entire browser to its default settings by clicking Restart with Add-ons Disabled, selecting Refresh Firefox when prompted, and clicking Refresh Firefox again. This will erase all your settings and add-ons.
Launching Firefox in Safe Mode on Windows
Try using a shortcut. In most cases, you can use a shortcut to start Firefox in Safe Mode. Find the Firefox icon on your computer, taskbar, or Start menu, then do the following:
- Hold down the ⇧ Shift key.
- Click or double-click the Firefox app icon.
- Release the ⇧ Shift key when Firefox opens.
- Click Start in Safe Mode when the option appears.
- Troubleshoot Firefox as needed.

Enter the Firefox Safe Mode command. Type "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode in the Command Prompt.
- If you installed Firefox in a different directory, try typing the command start firefox -safe-mode.
Press ↵ Enter to execute the command.
Click Start in Safe Mode when the option appears. This will confirm your choice and open Firefox in Safe Mode, where you can begin troubleshooting any extension issues if needed.
- If you encounter an error or cannot start Firefox in Safe Mode, try typing the command "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode in the Command Prompt and press ↵ Enter.

Click on Start in Safe Mode when the option appears. This action confirms your choice and opens Firefox in Safe Mode, allowing you to troubleshoot extensions if necessary.
Warning
- Resetting Firefox will remove all your settings, extensions, and browser data.
