Are you looking to encourage hair regrowth or speed up its growth? One of the most popular techniques is the "inversion method" (hanging your head upside down). First, apply oil to your scalp and then invert your head for a while. Supporters of this method claim that increased blood flow to the scalp stimulates hair follicles, promoting faster growth. There is no scientific evidence to support or refute the effectiveness of this method, although some studies suggest that poor blood circulation to the scalp may contribute to hair loss. For every success story about the miraculous effects of the inversion method, there is another that denies its effectiveness. Regardless of the outcome, why not give it a try?
Steps
Apply oil to your hair

Choose the right oil. There are many oils suitable for the inversion method. If you prefer natural ingredients, you can try olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or Moroccan argan oil.
- Select an oil with a scent you find pleasant. Since this method involves massage, choose an oil with a soothing fragrance to help you relax.

Warm the oil. Heat approximately 45 to 60 ml of oil. Prepare a cup of hot water and place the oil bottle in it. You can use tap water. Wait for about a minute or until the oil feels warm to the touch. The goal is to enhance blood circulation to the scalp. Avoid overheating the oil, as it may damage the scalp.

Apply the oil to your scalp. If you have experienced hair loss, focus on those areas first, then move to the rest of the scalp. Ensure the entire scalp is covered with a thin layer of oil. Remember, you don’t need to use too much oil.

Use a comb to distribute the oil through the rest of your hair. If your hair is damaged or has split ends, apply oil to the entire length. Damaged or brittle hair often lacks moisture and nutrients, and natural oils can help replenish both.
- If you have curly hair, comb gently or skip this step to avoid additional hair breakage.
Stimulate hair follicles

Massage gently. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp. Move your fingers in small clockwise and counterclockwise circles. Don’t hesitate to use your palms as well, as they can apply pressure to a larger area.
- Focus on damaged areas but don’t neglect the rest of your scalp. Avoid applying too much pressure to prevent hair loss or follicle damage. Massage for 4 minutes, then stop.

Invert your head. You can lean your head over a sink or bathtub. Alternatively, sit backward on a chair with your legs resting on the backrest. Whichever method you choose, let your hair hang freely and keep your head at a comfortable angle. The goal is to find a relaxed and comfortable position.

Hold this position for 4 minutes. This allows enough time for the oil to penetrate your scalp while gravity enhances blood flow to the area. Take deep breaths, clear your mind, and relax. This step is akin to meditation.

Sit up slowly. Move gradually to avoid dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint.
- Avoid the inversion method if you have high or low blood pressure, retinal detachment, ear infections, spinal injuries, heart conditions, hernias, or are pregnant. The inverted position can worsen these conditions or cause further harm.

Consider leaving the oil on your scalp longer. If you have an extremely dry scalp, this might be worth trying. Some recommend leaving the oil on for up to two hours or even overnight.
- Use a plastic bag to cover your hair and prevent oil from staining your clothes, furniture, or bedding. You can use a regular grocery bag or a specialized shower cap. These are readily available at beauty supply stores.
- Be aware that leaving oil on your hair for too long can make your scalp and hair excessively greasy, potentially clogging hair follicles instead of promoting growth.

Wash your hair. Ensure all excess oil is thoroughly rinsed out. Any leftover oil can make certain areas of your scalp greasier than others. Strong shampoos (with a pH above 7) can strip your hair of its natural oils. Products like L'Oreal EverCreme Intense Nourishing or Head and Shoulders are suitable. Generally, shampoos designed for dry scalps tend to have a lower pH.

Repeat every 3-4 weeks. Depending on your body’s response, you may notice results when performing this method every three weeks. Repeating it more frequently can make your hair greasy or even clog hair follicles, potentially hindering hair growth.
- Keep in mind that results vary depending on individual body chemistry.
