Connecting with someone who isn't yet your Facebook friend has become a bit more complicated since Facebook no longer offers the 'Suggest Friends' feature. This article will guide you through a few simple ways to help people in your friend list connect with each other. You can use a computer, phone, or tablet for these methods.
Steps
Send a link to their profile using your phone or tablet
Open the Facebook app on your phone or tablet. The app has a blue icon with a white 'f' inside and can usually be found on your home screen or in the app tray if you're using an Android device.
Open the profile of one of your friends. You can search for your friend by tapping the magnifying glass icon located near the top right corner of the screen.
Tap the white and blue Friend icon. This icon is located next to the 'Message' button and features an image of a person from the shoulders up.
Tap the Copy Link option. This option can be found under '(Username)'s Profile Link'. It will copy the link to your clipboard.
- You may need to tap OK to proceed.
Go to the other friend's profile. Here you can send the copied profile link from the first friend to the second one via a new Facebook message.
- If you wish to send the profile link via email or another messaging app, you can paste the copied URL by tapping and holding the text input area and selecting Paste.
Tap the Message button. This button is located under the username at the top of the profile page. It will open a new message in the Messenger app.
- If you haven't installed Messenger, follow the on-screen prompts to install it. You'll need this app to send messages on Facebook using your phone or tablet.

Visit the profile of one of your friends. You can use the search bar at the top of the screen to find your friend.
Select the address bar. The full URL to the user's profile appears at the top of the browser, for example facebook.com/Mytour.
- Typically, you can highlight this address by clicking once on the address bar. If that doesn’t work, click the address bar, then press Ctrl+A (on a PC) or ⌘ Cmd+A to copy the link to the clipboard.
Press Ctrl+C (on a PC) or ⌘ Cmd+C (on a Mac) to copy the link to the profile to the clipboard.
Go to the other friend's profile. You can now send the copied profile link from the first friend to the second one via a new Facebook message.
- If you want to send the link by email or through another messaging app, you can paste the copied URL into the message by right-clicking the text input field and selecting Paste.
Click the Message button. This button is located alongside other options on the right side of the user's name on the cover photo. Clicking it will open a new message in the bottom-right corner of the Facebook page.
Right-click in the text input area and select Paste (Paste). The input area is the section with the words "Type a message" (Enter message) displayed at the bottom. This action will paste the URL you copied into the input field.
Press the ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return key to send the message. This action sends a clickable link to the recipient, allowing them to click on it and view the profile of the person you suggested for them to friend.
- If the recipient wishes to add that person as a friend after viewing their profile, they can click on the Add Friend option next to the user's name.
Create a group chat on your phone or tablet.
Launch Facebook Messenger on your phone or tablet. The app features a blue and white speech bubble with a lightning bolt inside, usually appearing on your home screen or in the app tray.
- If you don't have Facebook Messenger installed, you'll need to download it from the App Store (for iPhone/iPad) or Play Store (for Android).
Tap on the new message icon. This icon looks like a pencil (and a paper sheet if you're using an iPhone or iPad) located in the top right corner of the Messenger app.
Select two people you want to introduce. You can scroll down and tap their names from your friends list, or use the "Search" bar at the top of the screen. Make sure to only select the two individuals you wish to introduce to each other. This action will add both of them to the "To" field at the top of the message.
Write a message to introduce them. You will tap the empty text input area at the bottom of the message to begin typing.
- You could write something like "Hey, you two should get to know each other!"
Tap the Send button. This button is shaped like a paper airplane or an arrow, depending on the device and app version you’re using. A group chat will be created, and all your messages (or your two friends' messages) will be sent to everyone in the group.
Leave the conversation (optional). If you don't want to participate in the chat between your two friends, you can exit the group yourself. Tap on the names of the people in the group at the top of the chat box and choose Leave Chat (for iPhone/iPad) or Leave Group (for Android).
Create a group chat on your computer.
Open https://www.facebook.com in your browser. One of the easiest ways to help two friends connect on Facebook is by sending them a link to each other's profile page. Once you've copied the profile link, you can paste it into a new message (on Facebook, via email, or any other messaging app).
- You will need to log in to Facebook if you're not already logged in.
Click on the Messenger icon. This app icon looks like a speech bubble with a lightning bolt inside, located at the top of the page (on the blue bar). A menu will appear.
Click on New Message in the top right corner of the menu.
Add both friends to the "To" field. Begin by typing one of your friend's names. As you type, a list of search results will appear. Click on the name of the person you're looking for and do the same for the second person.
Write a message to introduce them. Tap the empty text input area at the bottom of the message to start typing.
- You could write something like, "Hey, get to know each other!"
Press the ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return key to send your message. A group chat will be created, and all your messages (or those of your friends) will be shared with everyone in the group.
Leave the conversation (optional). If you'd prefer not to participate in the chat between your two friends, you can exit the group. Tap the gear icon at the top-right of the chat window, select Leave Group, and then click Leave Conversation.
