Our body eliminates toxins in two main ways: through the kidneys and the skin. Toxins are removed through the skin by sweating, which is the primary reason steam baths are so popular. After spending 5-20 minutes in a steam bath, the skin will start to sweat and expel toxins, helping your body become healthier and more beautiful.
Steps
Prepare for the steam bath

Drink plenty of water before entering the steam room. You'll sweat a lot in a short time during the steam bath, which may lead to dehydration. Be sure to drink several glasses of water beforehand to stay properly hydrated.
- Clean your body. Remove all dirt from your pores. Dirt can clog pores, causing acne and reducing the efficiency of toxin removal from your body.

Avoid eating for at least 1 hour before your steam bath. Similar to preparing for swimming, eating beforehand can cause bloating and digestive issues, so it's best to refrain from eating as long as possible before your steam session.
- If you can't avoid eating, opt for a light snack or some fruit.

Stretch before your bath. Perform a few simple stretches to relax and stimulate your body to release toxins through your pores. Stretching also enhances blood circulation, which helps expel toxins from the skin more effectively through sweat.
Proper Steam Bathing

Rinse off. A quick rinse before the steam bath helps bring your body to its natural temperature, making the steam session more effective. It's best to use warm water instead of cold, but avoid water that's too hot to prevent sweating prematurely.

Wrap a thin cotton towel. To get the most out of your steam bath, wear as little clothing as possible. The more your body is exposed to steam, the more toxins it can expel.
- Aside from the towel, avoid wearing anything else, including jewelry or glasses.

Ensure you have enough time to fully relax. You shouldn’t rush your steam bath session, and avoid doing it before any appointments or other tasks. Focus on relaxing and enjoying this time.
- Turn off or store your phone in a safe place to avoid distractions.

Relax in the steam room. You can sit or lie down as you prefer, but the key is to truly unwind and be comfortable. Let go of all the stress and fatigue in your mind, and simply enjoy the steam experience.

Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. To maximize relaxation, breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Hold your breath for a few seconds when inhaling. Closing your eyes allows you to focus on other senses in your body, and concentrating on your breath is a great way to relax and release stress.

Drink plenty of water during your steam session. Bring a water bottle into the steam room. The temperature in the steam room is quite high, and you’ll sweat more than usual, causing your body to lose water faster.
- Make sure to drink water regularly to stay hydrated during the steam bath.

Steam for about 5 to 20 minutes. You can leave the steam room after 5 minutes if that feels enough. However, don't stay for more than 20 minutes in one session to avoid overheating.
- If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, or uncomfortable during the steam bath, quickly exit the room and move to a cooler area.
Post-Steam Recovery

Cool your body gradually with water and air. You may be tempted to rush to a cool spot right after leaving the steam room, but stay calm. Doing so could cause your body to go into shock or shiver. Instead, find a well-ventilated area and let your body adjust to the temperature naturally.
- Drink plenty of water to replenish the fluids lost during the steam bath.

Rinse off again. After leaving the steam room, you may want to take a cold shower, but remember, a sudden temperature change could shock your body. A quick rinse under the shower will help your body return to a normal temperature.
- Start with warm water and gradually adjust the temperature to a cooler, more comfortable level.
- Some people use cold water mid-session to enhance the contrast between hot and cold, increasing the effectiveness of the steam bath. However, only do this if you are experienced with steam baths and know your body's limits.

Relax for a few minutes. Taking time to unwind after your steam bath is crucial. Many people think that once the steam session ends, the relaxation time is over, and they must return to the rush of everyday life. This mindset can waste the time you spent relaxing.
- Take a few moments to just relax. You've set aside time to rest fully, and even a brief period of relaxation is worth enjoying.
Tips
- Moisturize your skin after the steam bath. The hot steam will open up your pores, making your skin more prone to dryness.
Warnings
- If it's your first time in a steam bath, limit your session to no more than 10 minutes. Avoid jumping straight to the maximum 20 minutes, as your body needs time to adjust to the heat.
- Pregnant women and individuals with heart conditions or high/low blood pressure should avoid steam baths. If you have any other health concerns, consult a doctor before using the steam room.
