Skype is a fantastic app that connects people from distant places, allowing them to chat, make video calls, and stay in touch with loved ones. But did you know that you can also take pictures using Skype? This article will guide you on how to capture photos of yourself and your friends on both computers and mobile devices.
Steps
Capture Your Photo on a Computer

Log into your Skype account. Sign in as you normally would. From the Tools menu, select "Options..."

Click on "Video settings". On the Options screen, the image from your computer's webcam will appear once you click on "Video settings".
- If your computer is connected to more than one webcam, you can choose from the list that appears.
- Select "Webcam settings" to adjust video settings like lighting, brightness, and contrast.

Select "Change your profile picture". Prepare your camera, and when you're ready, click "Take a picture".

Edit the picture. You can move and resize the image within the preview window. Once satisfied with the photo, click "Use this picture", then hit "Save". Now, you have a new profile picture.
Taking Photos of Others on a Computer

Start a video call. Once you can see the other person on the screen, you can capture a photo at any time.

Click on the + sign in the call window. When you’re happy with the picture, click "Take a picture". The photo will appear in the "Snapshot gallery". You can share the image with your friends on Skype by clicking "Share", or save it to your computer by selecting "Locate".
Taking Photos on a Mac Computer

Log into Skype. From Skype's menu, select "Preferences...".

Select Audio/Video. In this window, you’ll see a live image from your webcam. If your computer is connected to multiple cameras, you can choose from the list displayed in the menu. Once set, close the Preferences window.

Edit Your Profile. From the File menu, select "Edit Profile...". Below your current profile picture, click on "Change Picture".

Click on the camera icon. In the Change Picture dialog box, locate the camera icon beneath the slider, and click on it once.

Smile at the camera! The camera will count down 3 seconds and then take a picture using your webcam. Afterward, you can resize and adjust the positioning as you wish. If you're not happy with the photo, click the camera icon again to retake the picture until you’re satisfied. Once you have a great photo and have resized/positioned it as desired, click the "Set" button. Your new profile picture is now set.
Taking Photos on Skype from Your Mobile Device

Open the Skype app. Select your image in the top left corner of the screen, then click on the camera icon above your profile picture.

Tap "Take Photo". In the current menu, you can choose to take a new photo, use an existing one, delete your profile picture, or cancel. Select "Take Photo" to open your phone’s camera.

Get ready to take a photo. Once you're prepared, tap the camera icon on the screen.

Edit the image. Tap and drag to move the image within the square frame. Zoom in or out. Once you're happy with the adjustments, select "Use". Your new profile picture is now set.
Taking Photos on Skype by Screenshot on OS X and iOS

Capture the active window. Skype for Macintosh doesn’t have a feature to take a picture of the person you're talking to. In this case, to capture an image, take a screenshot. To capture the active window, press and release the Shift-Command-4 keys, then hit the Spacebar. The cursor will change to a camera icon, and as you hover over the window, a light blue screen will appear, indicating which window will be captured, even if it’s hidden behind other windows. Position the cursor over the Skype window and click on it. The image will be saved to your desktop.
Tips
- More light will enhance the quality of the photo. If you're taking pictures in a dark room, the image will appear blurry and grainy.
