This article provides a comprehensive guide on transferring files and information from your iPhone or Android device to a Windows PC or Mac. You can move various types of data, such as photos, videos, notes, contacts, and more. USB cables are ideal for transferring most files and information between iPhones, Android devices, and computers. Alternatively, Bluetooth can be used to transfer files from an iPhone to a Mac or from an Android device to a Windows PC.
Steps
Using a USB Cable for iPhone
Ensure you have iTunes installed. You can easily back up all your iPhone data to your computer using the free iTunes program.
- If iTunes is not installed on your computer, download and set it up before proceeding.
Connect your iPhone to the computer. Plug the USB end of the iPhone charging cable into one of the computer's USB ports, and connect the other end to the iPhone's charging port.

Click on the iPhone icon located at the top-left corner of the window.
Check the box labeled "This Computer" under the "Backups" section on the iPhone page. This ensures your phone's data is backed up to the computer instead of iCloud.
Click the gray Back Up Now button on the right side of the "Backups" section to back up your data to the computer.
- You can monitor the backup progress by checking the progress bar at the top of the iTunes window.
Wait for the backup process to complete. Once the backup is finished, you will hear a notification sound, indicating it's safe to disconnect your iPhone from the computer.
Using a USB Cable for Android and Windows
Connect your Android device to the computer. Insert the USB end of the Android charging cable into one of the computer's USB ports, and attach the other end to your Android device.
Tap the "USB" notification on your Android device. When prompted, confirm that you want to use the USB connection for file transfer by tapping the notification. You can now proceed to work on the computer.
Click on This PC on the left side of the File Explorer window, though you may need to scroll up or down to locate this folder.
Double-click on the Android folder. Under the "Devices and drives" section of the This PC folder, double-click on the name of your Android device. This will open the folder containing your Android's stored data.

Download and install the Android File Transfer program. This free, easy-to-use tool allows you to browse Android files on a Mac. Follow these steps to set it up:
- Visit https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
- Click on DOWNLOAD NOW
- Double-click the Android File Transfer DMG file.
- Verify the software if prompted.
- Drag and drop the Android File Transfer icon into the Applications folder.

- If your Mac uses USB-C instead of USB 3.0, you'll need a USB 3.0 to USB-C adapter to connect your Android device.

Open the file you want to share. On your iPhone, open the photo, video, or note you wish to transfer to your Mac.
Tap on your Mac's name at the top of the menu. This will send the file to your Mac's "AirDrop" folder, which you can find on the left side of the Finder window.
- You may need to wait a few seconds before your Mac's name appears.
- You can also transfer files from your Mac to your iPhone by opening the AirDrop folder, waiting for your iPhone's name to appear, and then dragging the file to your iPhone's name.
Using Bluetooth for Android and Windows

- On Samsung Galaxy devices, the slider is located to the right of the "OFF" label and will turn blue or green when tapped.

- If the slider displays "On" on the right side, Bluetooth on your computer is already enabled.
Click on the option Add Bluetooth or other device. A menu will appear on the screen.
Click on Bluetooth in the menu. This will prompt your computer to start searching for your Android's signal.
Click on the name of your Android in the menu.
- If you don't see your Android's name, look for your computer's name in the Android's Bluetooth menu and tap on it when it appears. Your Android's name will then show up in the Windows Bluetooth menu after this step.
Click on Pair below your Android's name in the menu.
Click on Yes on the code notification panel. If the code displayed on your computer matches the one on your Android, select Yes. If not, choose No and try connecting your Android to the computer again.

Click on Receive a File in the displayed menu to open a new window.
Locate the file you want to share from your Android, such as a photo or video.
- If your Android has a File Explorer app installed (like ES File Explorer), you can browse internal files (e.g., downloaded app interfaces).
Select the file by tapping and holding. If it's a photo or video, you can tap to open it.
Tap the menu button. In most cases, it's the &# 8942; or ⋯ icon, but some Samsung Galaxy phones use the MORE icon. A list of options will appear on the screen.
Tap on "Share". This option may have different icons and labels depending on your Android device.
Select "Bluetooth". Again, this option may have varying icons across different Android devices.
Select your computer's name. Tap on your computer's name in the displayed menu.
Click on the confirmation prompt on your computer. If asked to accept or decline the file transfer, choose Yes.
Follow the on-screen instructions. After confirming the file transfer on your computer and selecting the save folder, the file will be transferred.
- You can also send files to your Android by clicking Send a File in the Bluetooth menu, dragging the file to the transfer window, and following the on-screen instructions. Then, select Accept or a similar option on your Android when prompted.
Download Contacts for iPhone
Sync contacts with iCloud as follows:
- Open Settings
- Tap your Apple ID at the top of the page.
- Tap iCloud
- Tap the white slider next to "Contacts". If the slider is green, skip this step.
Open the iCloud page by visiting https://www.icloud.com/ from your web browser. This will open the iCloud dashboard if you're already logged in.
- If you're not logged in, enter your Apple ID email and password to sign in.
Click on Contacts with the person icon to view your contacts.
Click on a contact's name. You can select any contact from the middle column.
Select all contacts. Press Ctrl+A (or ⌘ Command+A on Mac) to select all contacts.
Click on ⚙️ at the bottom-left corner of the page. A list of options will appear on the screen.
Click on Export vCard… in the displayed menu. The vCard file of your contacts will be downloaded to your computer.
Download Cloud Data for Android
Back up Android data. Before you can download data like contacts, you need to back up your Android data to Google Drive.
- Ensure you do this using an internet connection rather than mobile data.
Open Google Drive by visiting https://drive.google.com/ from your browser. This will open your Google Drive account if you're already logged in.
- If you're not logged into Google Drive, enter your email and password to proceed.
- This must be the account you used to back up your Android. If not, click the icon at the top-right of the Drive page, then select Sign out and log in to the correct account.
Click on the Backups tab at the bottom-left corner of the Google Drive page.
Select your backup. Click on the backup file you want to download to your computer.
Click on &# 8942; at the top-right corner of the page. A list of options will appear on the screen.
Click on Download. You'll find this option in the list. This will download your Android backup data.
Tips
- If your phone has trouble connecting to your computer, try using a different USB port.
- Another way to transfer data between your phone and computer is by using cloud storage services (such as iCloud or Google Drive). You can upload files to the cloud storage service from your phone, open the service's page on your computer, and download the files from there.
- Contacts on Android are often automatically backed up to Google. You can manage your Android contacts online.
Warnings
- Some types of data and platforms are incompatible (e.g., certain Apple data cannot be viewed on Android).
- You cannot use an iPhone to transfer files to a Windows 10 computer via Bluetooth.
