PayPal enables you to send and receive money globally through the internet, minimizing the need for paper-based transactions. You can add funds to your PayPal balance using a linked bank account or credit/debit card. With PayPal Cash, you can now deposit money at any participating location across the United States.
Steps
Transfer Money from a Bank Account

Check your PayPal Wallet. Before transferring money from your bank account, you need to link it to your PayPal account. Visit paypal.com, log in to your PayPal account, and click on the "Wallet" link at the top of the page. You'll find this link between the "Send & Request" and "Shop" buttons.
- The ability to link accounts varies by country. Some countries do not allow you to connect a bank account to PayPal.
- If you don't have a bank account, you can use PayPal My Cash. This service allows you to add cash to your PayPal balance by depositing money at participating retail locations. This method converts cash into PayPal funds. See the next section for more details.
- You cannot transfer money to your PayPal account using a credit card. Credit cards can only be used for purchases, not for adding funds to your PayPal balance. You can only transfer money from a bank account, debit card, or via PayPal Cash.

Click on "Link a bank" to add your bank. Select “Link Bank Account” to view a list of compatible banks.

Link the bank account you want to use. If your bank is listed on the screen, click its icon. Enter your online banking username and password in the respective fields, then click “Link Bank Instantly.” Your bank account will be verified immediately.

Link a different account. If your bank is not in the preferred list, click “I have a different bank” to manually enter your account details.
- Choose the account type, enter the routing number (or Swift code) and account number. Click “Agree and Link.”
Confirm the linked account after a few days. Within a few days, PayPal will deposit two small amounts into your account. You need to confirm these amounts with PayPal to verify your account. Once the deposits appear in your bank account, log in to PayPal and click “Wallet.” Click “Confirm” next to the newly added account and complete the process by entering the deposited amounts.
- This step is only required if you couldn’t select a preferred bank.

Transfer money from your bank account. Once your bank account is linked and confirmed with PayPal, transferring funds from your bank account to your PayPal account is straightforward.
- Log in to PayPal and click the "Add Money" icon under your PayPal balance.
- Choose the bank account you want to transfer from, enter the amount, and select "Add."

Check if the transaction is completed. Depending on your bank and PayPal account, the transaction may take a few days to process. Ensure you verify the transaction status to avoid refunds.
- Log in to PayPal and click the "Activity" button at the top of the page.
- Click on the pending transaction to view the expected payment date.
Using PayPal Cash

Use PayPal Cash to add funds to your account without linking a bank account or debit card. PayPal Cash allows you to use PayPal independently of a bank account or credit card. You can deposit money directly into your PayPal balance at local retail locations across the United States. PayPal Cash replaced the discontinued MoneyPak service in 2015.

Find a location. Click “Add Money” on the left side of the screen, then select “Add money at a store.” A list of nearby retail locations offering PayPal Cash services (such as Rite-Aid and CVS) will appear. Choose your preferred location and click “Get Started.”

Choose how to receive your PayPal Cash barcode. To use PayPal Cash, you need to generate a barcode online and present it to the cashier at the retail location. They will use the barcode to transfer funds into your account. Enter your email address or mobile number to receive the barcode, or select “Print” to print it.
- The barcode is valid for 48 hours and can only be used once. If you don’t visit the store within 48 hours, you’ll need to generate a new barcode.
- This barcode can only be used to add funds to your PayPal account.

Bring the barcode and cash to a local retail location. Visit the store and present the barcode to the cashier. Inform them of the amount you wish to add to your PayPal account.
- A service fee of $3.95 (approximately 100,000 VND) applies. The cashier will scan the barcode to transfer funds to your PayPal account.
- You can add between $20 (~400,000 VND) and $500 (over 10 million VND) per transaction, with a monthly limit of $4000 (over 800 million VND).
- Funds will be added to your PayPal account instantly. You’ll receive an email requesting confirmation of the transaction.

Learn About PayPal

Understand why you might want funds in your PayPal account. PayPal allows you to send and receive money online. You can use PayPal for direct payments. Link a debit or credit card to use your PayPal balance for in-person purchases.
- For online payments, PayPal can replace credit cards if linked to a bank account. This method is more secure because sellers only see your PayPal account details, not your bank or credit card information.
- Depending on your usage, PayPal may freeze your account or limit monthly withdrawals. Ensure compliance with PayPal’s policies and consider upgrading to a Premium or Business account for frequent transactions.

Consider linking a credit or debit card to PayPal. Linking a card simplifies sending and receiving money through PayPal, as you won’t need to provide card details to individual online sellers. To link a card, open your PayPal wallet and click “Link a card.” Enter your card information and select “Save.”

Ensure safety when using PayPal. Many users rely on PayPal for online shopping. While most transactions go smoothly, there’s always a risk of scams or account hacking leading to financial loss.
- Check seller reviews. Most sellers have feedback from buyers. Before paying, search for the seller’s name along with keywords like “reviews” or “scam.”
- Avoid responding to unsolicited sellers. This often happens on eBay. If you receive messages about items you never inquired about, ignore them. Reputable sellers don’t pressure buyers, so such messages may be fraudulent.
- If shipping takes more than 20 days after payment, it could be a scam.
