The ear's skin is similar to that of other body parts, containing pores that are prone to blockage. When the pores inside the ear become clogged, they typically swell and develop into painful pimples that are hard to touch. Although these pimples are difficult to reach and see, there are still effective ways to treat them.
Steps
Treating Pimples Inside the Ear with Medical Methods

Clean your hands before touching the pimple. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly 1-2 times before touching the pimple. Dirty hands can worsen the inflammation as dust and oils can clog the pores even more.

Clean the pimple with alcohol. Start by cleaning the pimple with a gauze pad soaked in alcohol. This method helps prevent infection and stops the spread of bacteria.

Clean the ear with witch hazel water. Witch hazel has antiseptic properties, helping to cleanse and prevent ear pimples. Soak a cotton ball or gauze in witch hazel water, then gently clean the ear area.

Wash the pimple. Clean the affected area with lukewarm water. You can also use natural soap or oil-free cleansers. It's recommended to use a cleanser with Salicylic Acid to unclog pores and heal pimples. For the inner ear area, you may use a warm cloth or Q-tip to wash and massage the pimple. Avoid rubbing directly on the pimple to prevent further irritation.
- Be cautious when using Q-tips. Never insert them into the ear canal. Only use Q-tips to clean the outer ear.

Apply pimple cream. Apply a 2-10% Benzoyl Peroxide cream to the pimples to help reduce them. Wait for the cream to dry after application.
- You can also apply a 10% Glycolic Acid cream.

Apply gel ointment. Use Neosporin or other gel/cream ointments on the pimples to aid in healing. Let the gel dry after application.

Use Peroxide. Soak a cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide and apply it to the pimple. If the pimple is inside the ear canal, you can drip peroxide into the ear. Tilt your head to let the peroxide flow into a bowl or onto a cotton pad.

Let the pimple heal naturally. Pimples that appear in the ear are similar to other pimples. They are often caused by dirt, shampoo, or earwax buildup. The pimple will heal if you avoid touching it.
- While you might be tempted to pop it, you should avoid squeezing a pimple in the ear. Not only is it painful, but it could also cause bleeding and lead to more severe issues, especially if the pimple is on the ear lobe or inside the ear.
Treat ear pimples with natural methods.

Apply a warm compress. A warm compress helps the pimple heal faster. Clean the pimple with alcohol, then cover it with plastic wrap. If you don't want to use plastic, soak a cloth in hot water, wring it out, fold it, and apply it to the pimple for 10–15 minutes. You can repeat this process 3–4 times a day.
- This method can be helpful if there is inflammation and pain.

Use black tea. Dip a black tea bag into hot water, then place the tea bag on the pimple. Cover it with a hot, damp towel. The tannins in the black tea, combined with the heat, will help reduce inflammation.

Preventing Ear Pimples

Wash your hands. One of the most common causes of ear pimples is poor hygiene. Touching your ears with dirty hands can transfer oil and bacteria to the skin, which can clog pores and lead to pimples.

Clean your ears properly. Make sure to keep your ear lobes, outer ear, and behind the ear clean. Shampoo, gels, and other hair care products can enter the ear and cause pimples. Use soap and water to wash your ears when you shower, wash your face, or wash your hair.
- Clean inside your ears when necessary. It’s best to use ear cleansers instead of cotton swabs inside the ears.

Dry your ears after showering. Always dry your ears after each shower. Pores tend to open up after a shower, which is a good time to remove excess oil and reduce blackheads.

Clean your phone. Using a phone is a common cause of ear pimples. Therefore, you should clean your mobile phone after use. It’s especially important to clean your phone if it is shared with others.

Clean your earphones. Since earphones are directly inserted into the ears, they tend to accumulate oil, earwax, and dust. After being removed from the ears, earphones often carry dust and other impurities. When reused, these contaminants are transferred back into your ears. Therefore, you should clean your earphones with alcohol after each use.
- If you have pimples outside the ear, avoid using earphones until the pimples are healed. Using earphones will worsen the condition. Clean the earphones with an antibacterial solution as pimples could reappear if they are dirty.

See a doctor. If you frequently develop pimples, blackheads, or blisters in your ears, you should consult a doctor. It's also important to seek medical advice if ear pimples cause significant pain or persist for more than a week. The doctor will help treat your ear pimples and determine whether hormonal imbalances are the underlying cause.
Advice
- Do not attempt to pop the pimples. Squeezing ear pimples can cause damage and worsen the infection.
- Wash your face and ears daily. This will help in the long run, as oily ears can lead to pimples and other issues.
